HomeGrown Tours is the most unique tour company on Martha's Vineyard. Your tour is not only narrated by a 3rd generation Islander but it is also a hands on learning experience. I pass around items that relate to the Vineyard to get a feel of how we live here, I have a screen that shows what certain sites looked like in the 1800s, I offer cold bottled water and lite snacks and rain ponchos for those wet days. Our bus tours are fun, safe and full of history! Book privately and we go where other tours buses dont go. I treasure Martha's Vineyard and the history and beauty. Our family's experience with HomeGrown Tours was exceptional and so memorable. At the very last minute I decided to see if there were any Jaws tours available for our day trip to Martha'sVineyard. After a couple of futile calls, I had the good luck of speaking to DeeDee at HomeGrown. She immediately went WAY out of her way to help me. Her personal kindness and efforts were above and beyond. She set up a tour with Jeff Vorhees who was the boy on the raft in Jaws. Two hours after i spoke with DeeDee, Jeff (Alex K in Jaws) met us at the ferry and gave my grandson, daughter snd me an amazing tour of Jaws sites on the island. We were all fascinated with his stories of the filming, about Spielberg,Dreyfuss and others in the cast. He is a wealth of knowledge and the nicest, most affable person. We all enjoyed him so much. My grandson will never forget this day and neither will we. DeeDee and Jeff, Thank you so much!!

I spent three hours touring Martha's Vineyard in a private van with Donna as my driver/guide. It was a delightful afternoon, and I am so happy I took the tour today. The sun was shining the whole day, and Donna enhanced the trip by offering all kinds of historical information along the way and in all the places we visited. It was great to be with a long-time local, as Donna filled me in with details that perhaps I would not have experienced with someone else. Again, a delightful afternoon.....Thank you!

We just finished a tour with this company and Devon was our tour guide. He was probably the best guide I’ve ever had for anything. Very nice, friendly, and informative. He was born here and knows everything about everything. Take the tour….no disappointments with this one or the owner Dee Dee. As good as it gets.

After reading others reviews of this company, it was an easy decision to book our Island Tour with them. $50/person for a three hour tour sounds great. I booked and paid for our tour on Aug 10th, then 10 days later I received an email stating that due to Covid, group tours weren’t being offered and we could book a private tour for $80/hour! I replied to the email from Dee and asked why it took them 10 days to notify me and why is the booking still available on their website. Dee replied saying that “they did have it on their website and to not assume that they’re not aware and that computers aren’t perfect.”
I understand the circumstances of this time during Covid, but again, if your tour is unavailable, take it off your website. I just went on their website and it’s still able to be booked. Also, 10 days to notify me, two days before I’m arriving, is unacceptable.
So, bookers beware. I’d call and not book online. Or just rent a car for the whole day for $60 more. That’s what we’re doing now! Maybe things happen for a reason!

Thanks for the review... our website urges clients to call ahead to be sure since COVID19 we are only running at half capacity... we offered a private tour but you declined... we offered another company for a shared tour and you declined... I hope how ever you decided to tour or see the island you did so safely... thanks again, we aim to do better....

On September 19,2024, I toured with homegrown tour, LLC. I paid 130.00 (65.00 for myself and my friend Chris). Dee dee canceled the tour because of inclement weather but on the 19th, she changed her plans and decided to accept 14 people on a short bus. I attended but my friend Chris did not due to the limited number of people allowed.
Dee dee said that I stated Chris was on the bus but that is not true. I never stated such. She refuses to reimburse 65.00 ( amount of one ticket) She could easily solve the problem by reviewing the list of people on the bus and amount of money she collected in total for that trip. and if she included Chris as present, the count would exceed her limited number of 14. It is impossible to reason with Dee dee as evidence by the unprofessional and aggressive tone text messages she sent to me. I finally had to block her angry replies. As a senior citizen, I cannot recall ever corresponding with anyone as rude and unprofessional as she is, particularly as a business owner serving the community. I am currently disrupting the charge with the credit card company.
My suggestion is wait to pay maybe the day of departure for tour and never pay her in cash because you certainly will lose your money dealing with this shady lady…. unbelievable.

You booked a tour for 2 people.....
When you got on board, I called out your name and and I said you have your two people and you said yes....
You should get your sixty five dollars from the woman that you will hanging with....
And according to the rest of the reviews, we are one of the best tour companies on the island, especially when it comes to customer service...
I have all of your ugly harassing texts ... If you think I need to steal $65 from you, I think maybe it's you that needs to take that from me... I'm not here for your free ride, and that's what this is all about....

Stay away! If I could leave a negative number review for this tour company, I would!!! I have been trying to get a refund from this company since September!! I wish I had read more of the other negative reviews as I see I am not the only one who has been trying to get a refund from them!! I received an email about a week before my tour saying that my "tour was cancelled due to COVID and you will receive a refund". I'm still waiting for my money. It's been about 7 weeks now, She claims she doesn't know how to do a refund with PayPal (I doubt that). I have now filed a claim with PayPal to try and get my money back. I scrambled and managed to book another tour of the island once I got the cancellation notice. I have sent NUMEROUS emails to the owner trying to get my money back. I've received empty promises that she will get me my refund - and I'm still waiting!! I think she is hoping I will just give up and go away, I was hoping I was dealing with an honorable company that keeps its promises, but I'm afraid this is not one of them.

On behalf of HomeGrown Tours, I would like to sincerely apologize and take a moment to express how saddened we are that our customers suffered from our poor performance this past season. Many clients had issues with cancellations and refunds. We realize how frustrating this is and are making every effort to ensure this will never happen again.
To explain: HomeGrown Tours experienced one of our worst years... We were excited to add an extra vehicle to our fleet, which meant we could take more reservations and make more people smile. It also meant we were able to do more transports for wedding guests. Unfortunately, our new vehicle was vandalized on its 2nd day with us and couldn't be repaired until just recently due to limited resources and finding parts were no longer available. This in turn resulted in us having to make cancellations and disappoint a lot of people. We tried our best to "rebook" our clients with other companies and get refunds processed.
One of the companies that sell tickets for us also had issues with refunds. To be Understood: We do not have any payments from the clients until the following month... Thats our payday.... so many refunds were held up by fault of the company that the client booked through, not with us.
I hope this clarifies why refunds took so long....
We apologize from the bottom of our hearts to you that experienced this.
HomeGrown Tours would like to extend our hands and let everyone know that we have revamped our vehicles to provide the services you expect when booking your tour. We will make sure that your tour will be the highlight of your vacation.

Unfortunately, utilizing a brochure found at the ferry ride to Martha’s Vineyard we reached out to book a tour. When we called, the call ended abruptly twice. We were unsure if the call was dropped or mistakenly ended; so we attempted one more call to follow-up. On the other end we heard talking and the phone hung up again and it felt deliberate. We texted our displeasure of being hung up on and received a message that we were rude, mouthy and a stalker. I suggested if the phone number works for personal and private matters that a separate number and a change of attitude would be beneficial as the customer on the other side doesn't know what is going on. The same energy used to be unprofessional could have simply been turned in a positive exchange fornus both solved by directing calls to voicemail and or simply indicating the tours were not available.

So lets start off first with the truth... you called continuously... i unfortunately forgot to silent my phone while visiting with my mothers partner to say goodbye, she was dying.... and when i dismissed the call, 3 TIMES, you decided you would berate me thru text instead of leaving a message... you are obviously bored... and mean.... not only that, you never spoke to me, you never took a tour, so this review is poop!!! be nice to the next person, you just missed the best tour of your life.

We booked a three hour tour the day before our planned trip and communication was great! Dee Dee was very helpful in telling us which ferry we should take etc. This is where the good part ends. The next morning we received a text a little before 8 am saying the tour was going to be delayed until 11 am. We were fine with that as we had already started our travel awakening at 5:30 am to make sure we could get the 8 am ferry from Hyannis. About 20 minutes before our tour was to begin we received a phone call saying there were problems with the van/bus and the tour was being cancelled. We then spent the next hour trying to find another tour and had no luck. We were very disappointed as this was the day we had planned to be on MV. It was pretty much a wasted day for us as we didn’t want to worry about navigating the public transportation system so we didn’t see the things we wanted to see.

I called to save any headache in getting another tour... things happen... my van just didnt work... life happens....and you woke up at 530 to get here, regardless of a tour... you were visiting MV and its one of the most visited destinations in the world.... theres not just one tour company on island... i paid and placed you with another company so that you would have a wonderful day.... YOU decided not to go.... hhhmmm, you forgot to mention that... do you have any idea how i feel when i cant pick up my passengers? do you think i just dont care??? thats stupid... of course i do... i was the one that went without .... not you.... remember, its nice to be nice... have a great winter....

Due to the weather conditions Port Authority would not allow our ship to tender. Despite several attempts via email and phone (left a voice msg) we were unable to contact anyone at HomeGrown Tours. Even after we returned home have not be able to connect with this company although keep receiving emails requesting we review our tour???

Why the one star?? You never even took our tour.... your ship didnt come in, because of the weather .... ok... are you trying to make another reservation?? Im not sure why you are trying to contact us but we have a phone that i answer, every day...... its still on.... the email works just fine.... hhhmmmmm.... make a booking through the review site if it makes it easier?? not sure how i can help you.... or what youre looking for.... thanks so much

We Did Jaws tour! Amazing Given in person by Jeffrey Voorhees. Very informative!! recommend with no reservation. He show us important part of island where scenes were filmed. He shared a lots of interesting facts. Got autograph picture. Highly recommended.

The Tour is of Martha's Vineyard, but I am sure you can ask the owner. Chappy is a day trip, so not sure how that would work. It's worth visiting...stunning unspoiled beach.

I hope the rest of your birthday was good. I wanted to let you know that Kara and I both enjoyed you and your knowledge. Both of us did leave the tour feeling underwhelmed. Your trip advisor site said it was an3 hour tour. That was one of the main reasons I chose your company. The tour you provided us was just 2 hours. So we had 33% less time than advertised. Kara had asked to know more about the gingerbread houses towards the end and your response was you didn’t have time to get into that. We asked twice about celebrities. You gave some names but when asked for more you just stopped. We do know you you were informative but 2 hours vs 3 is a’Huge difference. You mentioned at the end that you were about to give a tour to a wealthy group. Your pick up time for them was actually scheduled during our tour time. That didn’t make us happy. again neither one of us walked away feeling like we got our moneys worth. I don’t know if you would provide the courtesy of a partial refund for both of us due to the time loss. But we did need to express how we feel. Thank you. Laurel Hubble

As I had mentioned to you, the tour was a bus tour that you paid for. When we started, i mentioned to you that we were taking the same route as the bus... we do not go thru the campgrounds and it is only 2 1/2 TO 3 hours.... you were the only two that day,, so I decided to give you a treat and take you in the car... we got a late start due to using the bathroom and getting coffee, so when we ended, we did on time... I'm sry you experienced any discomfort, our main goal is to leave every customer satisfied.... thanks again...
