Stumbled upon this incredible place.

Take a gander in this cool place. Look at the vast books as well as the collection of ivory and whale artifacts.

If you are planning to stay in Nantucket for a while, I highly recommend getting a membership at the Atheneum. Membership is free and you can rent books for 2 weeks and DVDs for a week. They have a nice environment so it is a nice environment to work (Wi-Fi is free). You can also use inter-library loan to get... More

This is a great spot downtown to take a break, find a bench, and relax. While in Nantucket for ten days I brought my kids over multiple times to run in the grass and climb the trees. What a gorgeous library. We did venture inside one day. While we were impressed with the architecture we were not overly impressed with... More

A true community gathering place. Houses the library, but has lectures by authors, politicians, artists, et al. Hosts many local events like last weekends Artist Association Fair featuring local artists and artisans. Beautiful outdoor garden area.

Though very different from when I was young, the Atheneum is just a block from Main Street and a wonderful library to visit. The outside columns and architecture beckon you inside and welcome black and white photography!

How beautiful. We were wandering around and noticed the stunningly landscaped lawn with a school aged girl doing cartwheel after cartwheel upon it. Headed in to the atheneum and immediately spotted a very historical letter encased right near the door. I would have loved to stay for the entire afternoon as it seemed a welcoming and cosy place.

Saw a documentary upstairs and it was a lovely place to be, surrounded by book cases. Lovingly cared for, check out their many and varied programs

The Nantucket Atheneum is a landmark here, worth a visit, especially on a rainy day. They have good reading rooms and wifi.

The Atheneum is the very nice public library in town on Nantucket. They offer enjoyable programming for children (free) and also programs for adults - although I only ever attended the ones for children. If you are a resident and have a library card, you can request books from other libraries and they will have them delivered to the Atheneum... More
