Rent a jeep (only way to get there), drive out (about 45-60 minutes) and be prepared to fall in love with they precious natural place/experience in Nantucket. This is essential Nantucket, away from all the touristy dopes who just go to Edgartown and shop on their Nantucket vacation. Bring bug spray; if the wind is lulled, weirdly, the skilled buggers... Gateway to the Coskata Coatue Wildlife Refuge, the most beautiful and desolate north tip of the island. After going to see the Great Point Light, stop at the Wauwinet Hotel for a drink, lunch, dinner or overnight. IMHO best part of the island for peace and calm.

A very special and off-the-beaten-track part of Nantucket Island, Barely developed, and now under the protection of two conservancies -- Unspoiled and remarkable flora and fauna. We saw baby gulls with their moms -- Osprey nesting, seals at play, crabs of many sizes running sideways - all among the dunes with windswept trees and bushes of beach rose. It was... More

If you want to be pampered and have old world charm, this is the place! Plenty of room to spread out on a lounge chair by the bay or take a walk on the beach. Let the staff pack you a picnic! Don't miss out on the lemon ricotta pancakes for breakfast!

We rented a jeep and drove on the beach to see the seals. It was breath taking!!! It's a great place to bring a lunch and spend the day. What a wonderful way to totally relax in Mother Nature's splendor!

My wife and I spent three days and evenings at the Wauwinet, and all I can say is that this is the nicest hotel I have ever stayed at. Without exaggeration, you get the feeling that you are visiting at the Great Gatsby's home. Everything is first class from the service to the furnishings. May is very quiet on Nantucket;... More

Four wheel drive a MUST. You need to deflate tire pressure to 15 lbs before going onto the beach and refill the tires once you come off the sand. Lots of sea lions. Beautiful sand. Moderate waves.

So happy to experience the magic of this wonderful Nantucket place to stay, relax and be so comfortable. From the moment you arrive, you are treated so well by all the staff as they go above and beyond to make everything so perfect. This will be an annual tradition now for us thanks to the terrific service and friendliness of... More

We had lunch at Toppers yesterday on their enclosed and heated porch. The food was very good, the staff very attentive, but the ocean views are why you would want to go here.

We had a wonderful lunch on a summer-like September day with friends. The service was excellent, and our lunch was very nice, followed by a walk out towards the water looking back into town. One of the prettiest locations on the Island a few miles out of town and well worth the drive for the peace and quiet.
