After 94 steps (and a quick view of the beautiful church) you will be rewarded with a beautiful view of Nantucket. Go up on a clear day and you can see all the way to the vineyard. We went up with an older volunteer who treated myself and my son to great stories and pointed out all of our surroundings.... More

Local musicians and singers sang in several languages amid the roses and local privet flowers. A lovely comfortable church for the occasion made all visitors welcome

The inside of the church is very pretty and when we showed up, we were met by people with smiles who offered to show us the church and talk about it. They also offer a climb up the bell tower for a fee but we didn't do this.

The soaring steeple of First Congregational gives a sweeping view of Nantucket Harbor. You have to climb to the top, so not for the feint of heart. Two of our children have been married here and two of our grandchildren have been baptized. In typical old New England fashion each pew is enclosed by a small door. Notice the beautiful... More

Never went in here before, and so glad we did. The people who staff it are so friendly and will give you the real, local flavor if nantucket. They're spending $5mill on rennovations. The climb to the top wasn't bad. Even on the sat.bof July 4, we were the only 2 there. Nice to have a little piece of nantucket... More

We were lucky enough to visit the viewing level of the bell tower. It was a fantastic vantage point to see across town, the harbor, and some of the island. It is a great perspective.

This church is gorgeous inside, not showy or pretentious, but quiet and lovely. There is a sense of peace, when a visitor walks into this church. It is very old and simple, but lovely in its age and quietness. The smell of the polished wood and the creaking of the floors, the serenity and the knowing that so many have... More

Somewhere along the line in our travels around the Island of Nantucket, we were told we should check out the First Congregational Church and Old North Vestry. Were we glad we did! The building itself and the grounds were beautiful. For a nominal donation ($5), we walked around both the new church and the old one and then climbed to... More

First Congregational Church, dates back to the early 1700s. Located in the heart of downtown, FCC's historic bell tower is open to the public Mon-Sat, 10-4, & offers stunning views of the island.

While the old and new sanctuaries are beautiful places of worship in their simplicity, the 95 steps up to the steeple is a must for photographers seeking to get great views of Nantucket's landscape and harbor below.
