We loved going here on a Monday night for open astronomy night. Starting at 9:00, the staff, who vary in age but are mostly college students, give a talk about the night sky. Two giant telescopes let us look at Jupiter, Saturn, and an extinct...More

Definitely an opportunity you don't want to miss! Going to the Observatory on a clear summer night was a very cool and unique experience. I would highly recommend to anyone going to Nantucket.

Our favorite night on Nantucket begins with a fun walk by flashlight out past Prospect Hill Cemetery to the amazing Loines Observatory. There you will find 2 state of the art telescopes and an enthusiastic and professional astronomy team ready to point out everything of...More

Wish we had more time to spend, but will come back again and plan on dedicating an evening to the Observatory. An amazing experience for adults and children who appreciate science, astronomy and education in general. The 100 year old plus telescope is quiet amazing.

The staff will find the best things to see through the telescope and the powerful lens will give you a new perspective on the night sky. A great learning experience and a good kids activity.

As a kid I loved going to the Loines Observatory! They would open the large observation area and you could climb the ladder and peer at the heavens and see things that were amazing. Outside they would commonly have smaller telescopes so you could see...More

We saw a globular cluster of stars 22,000 light years away, and an amazing moon. Also, the international space station graced us with a fly-by. Great talk about the constellations too. A must see for young and old alike!

What a unique and fun night out on Nantucket. We first learned about the Loines Observatory on our first trip to Nantucket two years ago when we stumbled upon the Vestal Street Observatory. We were invited to look at the sun through a special solar...More
