I arrived on the ferry for a day in Nantucket with a broken bike chain. I stopped at Youngs to see if they could replace my bike chain & was told I had to leave the bike for a couple days if I didn’t have an appointment already. My friend asked the guy “doesn’t it only take about 10 minutes?” To which he replied “then you’re welcome to go across the street & do it yourself” pointing at a clear part on the road in front of the shop. I understand they were busy, but there was absolutely no need to be so rude to 2 women asking a simple question. I ended up walking the bike the 1.7 miles to Island Bike Company & he fixed it for me in 5 minutes! Even if he couldn’t fix it, I would’ve rented from him before I would’ve from Young’s. I guess being right there at the dock makes them think they can treat people however they want & they’ll still get business.

We don't always get it right at Young's Bicycle Shop and in this incident we clearly failed. After reviewing with my staff, it is clear that he was rude to you and I apologize for his and our behavior. That is not what got us to our current reputation of quality customer service and it will not bode well for our future. Thank you for sharing your recent experience. I will use this review as a reminder to all our staff how important each and every customer interaction is to the success and future of Young's Bicycle Shop.
I'm glad Island Bike Company was able to get your bike fixed in a timely manner. I hope after that, you and your friend were able to enjoy some nice bike rides on Nantucket.
Please remember that we are all in the midst of the Covid -19 global pandemic and these have been trying times for many of us. I'm not big on excuses, but as we navigate these unsettling times there may be limits to the services we can provide and lapses in our performance. Thanks again for sharing this review. We rented bikes for the day and are so glad we did! Used Young’s based on recommendation of our Inn we stayed at.
The bikes were in great shape and the staff was quick and efficient at getting us on our way.
There are great bike paths on the island so it was a great way to get around.

My husband and I decided on a whim we wanted to drive out to Great Point, which meant we needed to figure out a Jeep rental also on a last-minute basis. Youngs delivered! Caroline double checked their inventory and was able to find us a vehicle. The rental process was seamless and the staff incredibly friendly. The vehicle still had the new car smell and rode beautifully. It was the highlight of our long weekend! On another day, we also did bicycle rentals with an equally easy process. I can’t recommend Youngs highly enough!

We rented for a half day from here. The young people who checked us out and then back in were very nice. Very helpful with the explanation of the bicycles and bike paths and very helpful in helping us secure our backpack with bungee cords. The bikes were in great shape and the maps were good. We would definitely recommend this place.

They don't just rent bicycles. We were looking for a jeep for our day on Nantucket and I'm glad I stopped here. Excellent customer service, friendly, and funny too. They brought the Jeep around and we were on our way. I would definitely rent from here again.

This was my first time to e-bike, and it was fabulous! Jasper gave me a 5 minute lesson and let me practice around the block. Great trails, maps, and views. Biking was a great way to see the island and picnic at Madeket. I highly recommend Young’s Bike Shop.

We went here because of the good maps they put on-line. But once there, it was like they really didn’t care. We wanted to go on the advertised route around Nantucket, but nobody could tell us how long the route was, the big map they provided showed the route in faint-purple that wasn’t easy to follow, and no one bothered to tell us it included uphill biking on cobble roads, which is not ideal. Perhaps if someone had recommended the routes with bike paths we would have enjoyed the biking more, but no one we talked to there was that interested.

We have been coming to Nantucket for decades and Young's is the most convenient place to rent bikes or scooters. That said, over the years, the staff has become increasingly intolerant of the tourists and have lost the art of customer service. If there were more competition on the island, the customer service would have to improve, but as it is, if you want a bike or scooter you are regrettably subject to the impersonal treatment of Young's staff. It's a pleasure to bike or rent a scooter on Nantucket, just not a pleasure paying Young's for that privilege.

My name is Harvey S Young and I am the owner operator of Young's Bicycle Shop on Nantucket Island. The previous reviewer has clearly confused Young's with one of our many competitors on the island. My family has been in the rental / hospitality business since 1931. We currently rent bicycles, cars and Jeeps. We stopped renting scooters in 1997. We take great pride in our customer service and love what we do. If you are in a bike shop on Nantucket and they also rent scooters you are not at Young's Bicycle Shop.
Please stop by and let us show you "The Cycle-Logical Way to See Nantucket Island.

I brought My road bike in with a broken spoke and the mechanic was less then hopeful!!!!!!! He told me he had to fix the rentals first and could not fix mine for days.
I took my bike next door to NANTUCKET BIKE SHOP and the fixed the broken spoke in 20 minutes. The staff at NANTUCKET BIKE SHOP fixed & went beyond what they needed to do!!

Thank you for taking the time to send in this review.
It's exciting to get 5 star reviews, but it's more important for our business to hear from customers when their experience has not gone so well.
I wish we could fix every bike that comes in to Young's in 20 minutes and I'm sorry that our service technician on staff that day was not able to more clearly explain to you why that was not possible. At this super peak time in our season we must prioritize our service departments resources. Young's is primarily a rental shop and our rental bike fleet always gets first priority. We sell many new and used bikes and servicing those customers is next. After that, tune ups and repairs by appointment are attended to and finally we address walk-ins, if and when possible. I understand your frustration, but at the time and the day you came in, your repair was far down the queue.
Fortunately there are three bike shops on our block and Nigel, at Nantucket Bike Shop, was able to get you back on the road quickly. I'm glad you were able to enjoy biking around the island that day.
I also want to thank you for returning to Young's, after your ride, to explain to me personally about your interaction with our service department. Knowing and hearing about negative customer experiences is one of the best ways for us to improve. Your feedback reminds us that we must continuously strive to do a better job.

We area family of 4 with adult kids. We rented 4 bikes and took off toward Sconset. The ride was fairly easy but it is quite a distance, about 20 miles round trip. The road back along the shore was a little bit more hilly and the sea wind was pushing against us when going by the Sankaty light house area.
We rented the hybrid bikes which were really comfortable. Good cushions and shock absorbers. The bikes were all 8 gear and for the most part we were in gears 5-8 the whole trip.
A couple of tips. Make sure you pack water as there are not many places to buy water along the route. Also take advantage of all bathroom stops that you come across because they are pretty scarce also. We stopped in Sconset for lunch. There was one good sandwich shop, a decent general store with snacks and ice cream, and a couple of upper end restaurants near the beach. Unless you are an avid biker plan on spending 4-5 hours for the trip to Sconset and back.
