It is, in my opinion one of the best places in the area. The city is too hot in the summer and there aren't a lot of things to do there. You can walk in the nature or even better take a boat or a canoe, that's the unique experience. In the weeknds very crowded.

The lake and the canyon are amazing. Take a boat tour along the lake, but only in summer and spring. Avoid visiting on weekends - it may be crowded.

It is about 25km. from Skopje, Very narrow canyon and the locals made a wall, if not wrong in 1938 so it is the local attraction now. Very crowded during weekends.

In Skopje its the first place that you should see. It takes around 15 minutes from central. There is a very long walking path edge of the lake. And some restaurants... If you take a boat trips, you see them around and no need to be booked.

It was really pretty and very close to Skopje so worth it if you are staying more than 2 days. There is a well constructed hiking trail and a few restaurants and hotels along the river to make stops.

There is a very nice walking path along the lake. Bacause of the weather we did not have a chance to use a boat. We went to a restaurant to warm up a bit and discovered delicious cakes.

This is one of the best places to visit in skopje. Also the Church that is hanging out over the top of the rock is recomended to visit here. The road is good for walking even with kids. But the road to get to matka is not so good and the driving is very slow... it is better to go... More

Breathtakingly spectacular, once you get through the gorge to the lake, park as close as you can then walk up to the restaurant and boat dock. We took the boat tour - totally worth it, and they stop at a cave with stalactites and stalagmites and bats. The boat reminded us of Milford Sound. Just be careful about overcrowding on... More

We visited on a very hot Sunday afternoon when the entrance was packed with families enjoying the sun and the water. If we hadn't come with a guide as part of an organised tour, we would probably have turned back. However, things quietened down by the time we reached the dam and we took the boat tour to the bat...
