- Ričards EdijsLatvia87 contributionsValuable for those who have an interest in archeologyThe exhibits allow one to understand the cultural heritage of modern-day North Macedonia. However, for me, it seemed to lack a broader context, an explanation, or a description. An audio guide would have been beneficial to promote awareness of the importance of the archeological diggings done. If you are interested in archaeology and know more about it, you could like the museum. Sadly, many exhibits didn't even have titles translated into English...Visited February 2023Written March 3, 2023

Some information is in English but not all. The top floor cases were all empty. Could be better with more curating.Visited July 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten July 9, 2023
- Coryy20Port of Spain, Trinidad4,837 contributionsGorgeous outside ..so so insideThe building is absolutely gorgeous. That said there was not much of anything interesting inside. Staff were not very welcoming and some of the photos and archaeological stuff seems to point to Bulgaria more than Macedonia. I still recommend this to those who are interested in archaeology to visit maybe they will have a different opinion.Visited December 2022Traveled soloWritten August 29, 2023
- Heather e32 contributionsMany Roman artifactsThis museum has a very fine collection of pottery, jewelry, and sculptures from ancient times. The fee is 200 dinars per person. They are working on english signage, some artifacts have no signs. If you cannot read Cyrillic you may want to skip as you will not get as much out of it as I did.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 18, 2023
- Kamelija A2 contributionsBeautiful museum, rude staffIt was a beautiful experience for me (as a Macedonian not living in Skopje) to see such a treasure that had been found in my country. However, I had to rate my experience lower because of the "amazing" hospitality of the staff there. Since we entered the museum, we were welcomed with rudeness and comments about "not reading properly the price of the tickets on the website". Of course, we expected the attitude from the people that live in Skopje (the privileged people of Macedonia), but to experience it to that extent wasn't exactly my plan. We enjoyed the museum, the second floor was closed and it is expected to be open on 15th of November, so we weren't able to see it. I love my country and culture and I recommend the visit to everyone, but be prepared for an outcome like this.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 23, 2023

First, the building is amazing both during the day and night. The tariff is 100 dinara and they do have a gift shop. They have many wonderful exhibits of archaeological relics, coins, jewelry, and statues. I recommend visiting this museum.

Great museum with very interesting exponates. However, the staff was awful. The lady at the counter mentioned how I was dressed accordingly (male), but my girlfriend and friend were dressed for a party. And the fun thing was that my friend was dressed same as me (jeans with a T-shirt). Later when we passed by she loudly said that we will probably go grab a coffee next ( Loudly enough to be certain that we need to hear it). Just very unprofessional and it pretty much ruined an otherwise great experience.

The museum was alright considering the price, but the overall experience was bad, due to awful staff. Short story is that you don’t feel welcome there. See Long story below.
The woman in the counter was rude, didn’t want to explain anything, and she would only accept even money. When we entered the gift shop, she didn’t want to sell anything, since she was busy talking to her friends/coworkers. Then she got mad at us because there was a wrong price on the stuff. Couldn’t see how that was our fault. Afterwards she was calling us something in Macedonian we didn’t understand as well.
Maybe if they got some better staff the experience would be better. This is the first time we experience rude people here in Macedonia. What a shame, considering how few tourists they have at the moment.

This building definitely sticks out in the heart of the city center. It is particularly beautiful at night with the lights on all around. It really defines the whole area, and my second favorite thing after Alexander The Great statue!

Probably one of the worst curated museums I’ve ever been to. Just a collection of pots and sculptures without much English explanation for the context.
The building is quite nice though.

Visited the museum today with my husband and baby, was told when buying tickets not to take photos which was absolutely fine. During my visit, I happened to take my phone out and look at it for a few seconds and shortly after, I noticed the security guards were following us around the museum. A security guard then approached me and accused me of having taken a photo. I assured her that I did not, and even showed her the folder of photos on my phone, which were mostly of my baby. She left, and then returned a few minutes later with cctv footage of me with my phone in my hand. I reiterated to her that I had taken my phone out and looked at it, but had absolutely not taken any photo. We went on to an exhibition on the next floor, and again the security guard returned with a colleague and the guy from reception who sold us the tickets (and spoke some English). By this time, I was getting really embarrassed because I just wouldn't take a photo in a museum when you're told not to. I showed the 3 of them my photo folder and folder of deleted photos on my phone and, although the guy was somewhat apologetic, the security guard was on some ridiculous power trip and was insisting that, it looked suspicious because I had taken out my phone. I actually started crying just because I was so embarrassed and frustrated, they completely ruined our visit to the museum and treated me like some sort of criminal or spy or something. After completely taking the enjoyment out of our trip, we felt it was best to just leave. I hope the security guard gets a pay rise for her stellar detective work.......not

Is this a great spot to bring children (1,6,8 years old)? We're going this July. Thanks:-)

With constant explanations of what is being displayed, it can be enjoyable for the the 2 oldest kids. However it requires you guidance especially at the area of skeletons.

Hi, can someone tell me what are the hours of this museum?

Your hotel desk clerk should be able to ascertain the hours at this time of year. I think they were 10-6 this summer. They may also have an English language website that you can check.
