This mountain peak can be reached by cable car where you can also visit the Millenium Cross. There are 360 degree views from the top that are simply breath taking. From various positions you can also see Skopje centre, other mountain ranges opposite, some of which are green and some that look like they have snow at their peaks. This is an awesome destination that I drove to then hiked for around 45 minutes from Sonje village to it's peak. Not to be missed

I've been here a couple of times (both hiking and with the cable car to the top). It's a popular place for families to go to at weekends as you can sit at Middle Vodno and have a nice picnic before you head on your hike or catch a cable car. There are also some restaurants at middle Vodno and a coffee to go at the top beneath the cross.

The mountains on the border between North Macedonia and Kosovo were beautiful. The small ski destination Popova Shapka was a good starting point. Easy to park. Cheap hotels of good standard. Beware of the showers in the summer.

Hiking up Vodno was moderately easy, I did the hour route that goes almost directly straight up. There’s another route that’s longer but much easier to walk.
When I got to the top, I was blown away by the views. There’s another mountain behind Vodno that you can’t see unless you’re at the top and it’s breathtaking.

Vodno is a place you have to visit if you are traveling to skopje. It was very easy to take the bus there. Just ask the person whos working in the reception(central bus station) wich bus it is. The bus we took was M. The ticket is only 35 denar. It is a short ride up, maybe 15 minute. When the bus stops (last stop) you can take the aerialtrimway up to the top. It cost 100denar . It 's a beautiful view, and you get to see the whole city. The aerialtrimway last ride up is 17:30(i think) in the winter. And 19:30(if i remember correctly) is the last ride up in the summer.

Mountain of Vodno is situated south of City of Skopje and is easy reachable from the center. The mountain is 1066 meters high without the Millennium Cross. It's easy accessible for the tourist especially in the spring, summer and fall months. There is a bus departing from the transport center in Skopje and is arriving in the Sredno Vodno (Middle Vodno 557 meters) on every hour. From Sredno Vodno you can walk or you can buy a ticket for a cable car who will take you to the Millennium Cross. The ticket for adult is 100 Macedonian denars or 1,5 euros for a round trip. At the cross you can relax and enjoy in the beautiful panorama of Skopje. Also you can purchase there a tea or soda and sit in the rest areas. I suggest if you have time to walk all the way from the cross to the city because the nature is really pleasant and you can have great opportunity to take some cool pictures of the nature and you can hear different kind of birds. Lately in the weekends it can be full of people just relaxing or jogging, riding mountain bikes on the trails maybe some ATV's. Also Vodno is connected with Matka lake and if you walk west from the peak you will end up in Matka.

We got the 25 bus and then the lift up as we're not hikers but wanted to enjoy the view which didn't disappoint! There's a shop and seating at the top for refreshments and a great view of the city. The lift is very cheap too, equivalent of €1. Definitely worth doing to take in Skopje from above.
The buses back are every half an hour or so and you need a ticket in advance to get on the bus.

It is very nice place.
Sredno Vodno area can be accessed by car or a bus. Then it can be reached by mountain paths or a cable-lift (ropeway). Price per person for the ropeway is 2 EUR.
You can climb to the Millenium Cross with hiking, it take more than 2 hours.
At the Millenium Cross there is a bar where you can take a rest and have a drink

What a real surprise this was. Really clean, great trails, and some wicked views. Easy to get about and with toilets and facilities at the top.
Theres a paragliding jump off point at the top too.
The cable car is good value at 2 euros return and the views at the top are very very impressive. its so simple to do and really close to the city.
Definatley do this if you have half a day spare in Skopje. We walked it al, but you can grab a bus to the cable car area if your pushed for time.

The view on top of Mountain of Vodno is just amazing. A must see in my opinion. Take a jacket, it can be windy up there. There are buses from the city center to the elevator that will take you to the top of the mountain. I think there is a bus each 30 minutes, but I'm not sure. I met some people who went to the top on foot, but they told me they had walked for 3 hours...

Does the cable ride on mount vlodno work in march? Thanks
Written July 29, 2018
I believe it does; It is closed, as I recall, on Sundays and Mondays, however. The hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., again as I recall. If you want to catch the last bus back into Skopje, be sure to be down from the mountain in time!!

Hi. I want to hike from the milenium cross to Lake Matka. Is there a bus i can toke from Skopje to the cross? And the hike, does is start from the top of the hill on which the cross is, or downwards?
Has anyonw done the hike lately? I heard that a few years ago the marking signs were not very good

How long does it take to walk from the bus stop? And what bus do we need to get from the city centre?
Thanks

I don't really know the bus nr, but it wouldn't be hard to find out just ask the driver. The bus stops at the parking spot and it's just runt the corner to the cable car, would say 100m-150m.
