I love the concept of this fountain. Visited with my daughter - very special to walk around looking at the family pairs. Skopje is an easy city to walk around and many of its sights are like this fountain.

Although Sopje is incredible full of demented sculptures, monuments and buildings, this one is the worst. I really mean it when I say it`s kind of good that they did built a statue for the women of macedonia - I can´t remember another one for women in Skopje - but this sculpture is the ugliest thing you can imagine. Besides this, it depicts the women merely as Mother, theres no other option, and all they care for is there child. It´s a terrible picture of women, the sculpture is terrible and over all this thing is a mess. But you really should see it because of that, like the whole of the new Skopje, it´s so bad it´s good. But when you think of all the money this young country could have invested in real culture, infrastructure, education etc. it´s just sad.

I found this a terrible peace of art reminding me of what the Nazis built in Germany: An expensive spring well that used a lot of money from corruption and was only built for money laundering makes the viewer get an opinion about women as their only purpose is to produce a lot of kids. This is sexism

These statues should have been much smaller and better-made - they are quite disturbing and ugly. Most of the time you are, like ... seriously?

You can't avoid seeing this in Skopje, as it is right on the walk between the old stone arch bridge and the old bazaar. Artistic taste will be what it is, but for me, the only value of this statue is comical. It's nice to throw a memorial to women in among the rather more phallic pedestals for the warrior types, but it's a reflection of the culturally conservative project of which this statue is a part that women are being memorialized because of their lactating breasts rather than for anything else. Every time I walk by this, I think to myself that the message must be: we love women who raise strong Macedonian boys. Aesthetically, at least, these aren't the worst statues (the Philip of Macedon one is much more poorly sculpted), but that's faint praise.

Very near both the Skopje city center and the Old Bazaar, thisseries of sculptures depicts mothers in a series of typical maternal activities.

While the idea behind the statue is nice, the statue itself is not in the best of places and generally quite boring.

I still give it low marks just for the fact that they spent good money on these tacky oversized tchotchkes when the money could have been earmarked for so much better. They could have done less and smaller sculptures but better quality, and taken their time about the project.
That said, I have traveled throughout the capital cities of Europe for the last six months and have had my fill of magnificent, old word, top notch, well executed sculpture. The garish, hyper scaled, metal "Colossi of Scopje" gave me some much needed comic relief after all of the tragedy that I have encountered as I toured the Balkans.
It's a win-win situation. People with no taste can enjoy their artistic merit, and those with some cultural sophistication can have a good laugh.
