About
Founded in 1966, ASGT is an outdoor community theatre led by volunteers, presenting musical theatre (featuring live music) in "one of the most unique venues in the area" [BroadwayWorld 6/30/16]. Our location in the heart of Annapolis' downtown scene and our summertime schedule lend themselves to fun, upbeat entertainment. Enjoying dinner at one of the city's many fine restaurants and a show at ASGT is the perfect way to spend a summer evening in Annapolis. Fun, casual, and never stuffy, ASGT is "truly one of Annapolis' hidden treasures" [TripAdvisor review by Alex C 8/13/15]. Performances are Thursdays-Sundays and select Wednesdays at 8:30 pm between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
Duration: 2-3 hours

I decided to give a seaon subscription to friends as it would ensure us catching up on each other. I was only able to go to one night's entertainment, but my friend did go twice. The venue is very casual and the production was well done.

It's summer, hot and sticky in Annapolis. What's a fun and entertaining experience in Annapolis, that won't break the bank? The Annapolis Summer Garden Theater.

This is truly one of Annapolis's hidden treasures even though its less than 100 yards from Ego Alley. For the price of a couple movie tickets, you can be watching intimate live theater. This is anything but stuffy theater, go in shorts and a polo. You will be sitting in plastic outdoor chairs, there are only about 200 seats, so there isn't a bad seat in the house.
It is under the stars so shows start around 8:30PM, which makes for a late night if you are working the next day. The all volunteer casts do a remarkable job, even the musical vocals have been great. In the Addams Family, five of the leads had remarkable voices, especially Gomez and the young man courting Wednesday. Last year's, Spamalot had me laughing practically every minute.
Snacks and Drinks are available for a dollar.

What an enjoyable way to end the summer in DTA. The performers were excellent, the orchestra was amazing and really enjoyed the show. Will make this part of our summer ritual. The cost is pretty minimal. I would bring a seat cushion next time or perhaps they could do a fund raiser and purchase seat cushions for everyone would be a good winter project for the theater or get a corporate sponsor to purchase them and let that be in front page of the playbill. That was biggest complaint I heard about the ASGT.

$1 for a bottle of water or candy is wonderful! Keep up the amazing work and see you next summer.

I recently attended one of the last showings of "Rent". The cast (all volunteers) was fantastic and production innovative. Having seen this show on Broadway, many moons ago, this was a fun way to see it again.

We sat in the second row, which I would not recommend as your neck gets sore, probably 4 or 5 rows back would be perfect.

I'm anxious to get back to the next production, "The Producers" soon.

It's always great to hear that our patrons enjoy the fruit of the labor-of-love that is community theatre. I hope we see you again soon. Get your tickets for "The Producers" soon; it's selling out quickly!

We took in a performance of "The Wedding Singer" recently and were very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the performance. This is an open air theater, walls but no roof, so I wouldn't recommend this for poor weather. The performance began at 8:30, presumably to allow the sun to be well on its way to being set. This did mean it was cooler outside that it would be in the heat of day, so we enjoyed the hour for that reason. But it did make for a very late night.

Seating is on plastic chairs set up in rows. The theater has selected sturdy chairs and placed them in such a way that there is pretty good legroom. There are a lot of rocks on the ground though, so leave the high heels at home!

The theater offers snacks and canned soda for purchase in the lobby. There are two unisex bathrooms, not adequate for wheelchair users, near the lobby. Ticket prices are very reasonable. We paid $22 per person.

Parking is problematic so get to the area early, find a parking spot, have dinner and a drink, then walk to the theater.

Been here many times. One time, we were waiting for the 8:30 pm show to start. A dozen bats few over as they left their day roosts in, I guess, the old brick buildings that surround this outdoor theater. And what show were we waiting to see? "The Addams Family." I am not making this up.
TIPS: 1) Bring a seat cushion for the plastic chairs. 2) If you have kids, make sure you are familiar with the show or ask the box office if it's appropriate. Some shows are not. 3) Gaze up as you are waiting.

LOL - You know, outdoor theatre has its quirks, but sometimes those quirks play right into the story unfolding on stage...like bats flying over "The Addams Family". Too much. Thanks for your five-star review, skating016! We agree, everyone should take a moment to gaze up at the stars before the show begins. It's a rare treat to enjoy a musical theatre performance outdoors. We hope to see you this summer for our 50th anniversary season.

We loved the outdoor theatre, in the historic district. It is rustic with plastic chairs and a fun atmosphere. The quality of the performances was enthusiastic, but uneven. Sound problems were eventually resolved. Go for the fun, not the quality of the performance.
