If you hear the traffic report in DC area on a summer day or for any holiday, Bay Bridge will inevitably come up. With its maddening traffic at peak hours and in peak season, add a good chunk of time to your travel to the beaches. Otherwise, the view from the bridge is nice and it is a consolation that we at least get a view to enjoy in exchange for the toll we pay. I believe the toll is higher for the out of state motorists. Plan your travel carefully to cross the infamous bridge.

The Bay Bridge was oddly backed up on an early Monday afternoon with clised lanes. The weather today was very hazy, making it difficult to see across the span. Fortunately, we got a glimpse of Sandy Point Park/Beach and the offshore floating light house. It was not possible to see Annapolis from the Kent Island side, but one is still impressed that span one has lasted 70 years and the second for 50 years. Hopefully, something will be done to add more structures to improve traffic flow.

I have been on this bridge a few times and it's a nice bridge with great views of the Chesapeake. However, it's very long and quite scary for people who are afraid of driving on bridges. It also has issues with high winds, which can close it. Without taking this bridge, though, it's a long way around to the Eastern Shore.

This bridge is not for the faint !!! If you are timid or shy, either get in the right lane or drive 45 MPH. Over the years, I have taken this bridge and though ........ breathtaking, it is a little nerve racking as the guard rails are not solid. Come on guys, finish off this behemoth and make it a little more safer for us travelers.

There are only two bridges across Chesapeake Bay, this one at the north end, and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel at the south end. Both are toll bridges. They take a photo of your license and send you a bill in the mail if you haven't paid some other way first.
As bridges go, this one is large and impressive. (Why it's on this site no doubt.) I've been on it twice, once from the east, once from the west, in 2021 and in 2023. Both times, it was an interesting experience.
Caveat: If you are afraid of being on bridges, afraid of height, or afraid of being over water in general, this is going to probably scare you, but ironically, neither time was anyone driving crazy. The way you are herded slowly into the lanes, the height, the large barriers along both sides of the roadway, and if you get one slow car, everyone is going to go slow, most likely contributes to a lack of crazy drivers. There is no room for an idiot to pass you, and no way they can speed either, so that might be consoling.

Traveled over the CBB to pick up our granddaughter on the Eastern Shore. Try as I might I could not find a tollbooth or a sign for one as I approached the bridge. Not having gone over the bridge for some time, I thought it was great they had eliminated the toll. To my surprise , after a few months, I received a ticket for $34.00 "Not paying a toll". I paid it and chalked it up to experience. Will not be going over the bridge anytime soon..... WHERE IS THE TOLLBOOTH??????? Really sorry I missed it! Not the best experience.

If you have time to add this to your drive make it happen! Absolutely beautiful view and fun to drive so high above the water and look out. If you are scared of heights, this is not the best activity for you. It cost us nothing to cross the bridge coming into Annapolis.

Impressive bridge over the Chesapeake Bay connecting Annapolis, Maryland with the Eastern Shore. It's tolled only in the Eastern direction. Be aware that there is one eastbound lane on the westbound span, which is a little unsettling.

It's always a majestic view driving over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Today was a little hazy, but less eye strain from the sun. Fun to spot boats. Heading east on a Monday meant less traffic. Easy entry now without tolls. Great start to a day at the beach.

Impressive to see from Sandy Point Park. Always traffic. Neat to drive across once, just for the view. Did I say there is always traffic. Still neat to see when a large ocean liner passes under it to fully appreciate how massive the structure is.
