We traveled by Ferry Las Perlas on a week day, it was monday. It was not too crowded but there many people. Las Perlas is amazing, clear turquoise waters, and beautiful islands, but you need to research in order to pick the best one for your style. We got there early, and they have a tent with chairs so you can sit while you wait. Everything was fast and service was friendly. The boat is comfortable, and it feels safe.

They have several stops in different islands, and you get off where you want to stay. We requested to stop in Contadora, grab an early lunch at a restaurant, and then hired a small boat for island hopping. This is the best idea if you want to see the real beauty of Las Perlas.

The ferry ride is the most affordable way to go if you want to enjoy a day at the beach but don’t want to spend too much on an excursion. We did a one day Roundtrip to Isla Contadora. It came out to about $84 for a round trip. The ferry seats are pretty close so on our way to the beach it wasn’t the most comfortable ride but some people stay behind so on our way back there was plenty of space to stretch out. The boat ride was about an hour and a half . Make sure to bring your passport as you will be asked for it when your bags are being checked upon arrival. There are hotel reps standing around we were offered a day pass at a hotel for $25 per person which included a cocktail, umbrella , chair , lunch, and a desert. We brought our own food so we decided not to. The island is small so you can walk around however it is much easier to rent a golf cart to get around for $50 for the entire day. If you are traveling with children I would definitely recommend the rental since it is hot and humid and it is still quite a walk to some of the beaches and the restaurants. There are 4 beaches and you have a good 5-6 hours to explore the island so I wouldn’t just stay in one beach all day. We did one beach and took a lunch break then explored another beach . The restaurant in the hotel averaged out to about 35 per person so if you are not looking to spend that much on lunch make sure to take a cooler with snacks and drinks . One of the beaches did not have a hotel so it was just whatever you brought along with you. At the second beach we were able to rent a chair and an umbrella for $5 each . It was a great family day at the beach.

The ferry ride was comfortable and fast. On the outbound the food was very slippery; perhaps it had been washed with something oily. The treat was en route back from Contadora when we saw multiple pods of dolphins jumping alongside the ferry. The captain slowed down for the show and photos.

Horrible customer service. When I explained that my daughters flight was canceled and she would not make the ferry we were told too bad. She could use the round trip ticket for one year. $100 poof gone. When I suggested that the 25-30 or so people checking in that perhaps there was one person who was paying cash could buy my ticket I was told to sit down. As a consolation they put me at a window seat ! Ha. Not in “ first class” the comfy seats in front. But a window directly under neath a tv that for 2 hours blasted music videos! When I got up from my seat to attempt to get away from the noise of the music , dogs barking in crates. Kids screaming and crying I tried to access the outside on the top deck. I was quickly tapped on the shoulder by a huge doorman to point me back to coach. Evidently only those first class passengers got to see the outside. Awful experience. Fly over if you must. But the island wasn’t exactly a tourist spot worthy of seeing / visiting.

The ferry leaves from the former Trump Hotel. Go through the lobby and straight to check in. We recommend paying for executive class upgrade. We enjoyed our trip both ways. The crew were very involved and informative. Getting of the ferry and back on the ferry at Contadora is very fun and interesting. We would recommend anyone take this ferry!

Where to start ? Nearly $100 for a return trip/... waiting for ever to get on the boat with our bags. Then you have to run to get seats (our boat was 100% full) so some people had to sit outside. The first boat was rather comfortable with blue seats and good AC. the sea was calm. Know that the island doesn't have a pier a small dirty boats take you to the beach so make sure not we wear shoes or pants as you will get wet. On the way back we had to wait in line for the police to check our bags (who knows why) then again on a small fishing boat. This time the trip was a nightmare. The waves were not very high but the boat was moving all over the place. Many people were sick, kids screaming. This made the crew laugh so much... then they put on loud music and started dancing. 2 hours of the most uncomfortable boat ride ever. I do not recommend taking this ferry except if you really like to rough it.

Upon arriving at the dock we were told by the workers that our ferry had been cancelled due to bad weather. It was clear and sunny out and other services were still going to Contadora Island. We found out later that this company has a history of cancelling services when there are not many passengers signed up and they will make up excuses, such as weather. For the record we did receive a refund for our tickets, but both lying and not even telling us about cancellation until we show up is unprofessional at best.

The trip to Contadora was one of my favorite parts of our trip to Panama City but the company gave zero guidance as to the logistics of the trip. The round trip cost is $90 per person (as of December 2015). The boat leaves from behind the Trump hotel. You walk into the lobby and go to the left through a hallway to the rear of the building. You should show up about 30 minutes before the departure time but be prepared to wait around after you check in. The trip takes about an hour and forty minutes. Once you get to Contadora, you take a small boat from the ferry to the shore. After the military searches your bags, you are free to tour the island. You can walk around the island but there are also golf carts for rent that makes the exploration of the island much more enjoyable. We drove around for several hours to 4 of the 7 beaches and had a great time. There are also several restaurants on the island. We went to Gerald's which seems to be the most popular and within walking distance of the beach where the ferry drops you off. We had no complaints but I wouldn't say the food is great. On the trip back, you have to check in at the hotel lobby near the beach prior to boarding. It was a great day trip and highly enjoyable but don't expect the ferry company to tell you anything about the island or for your day to have any structure.

We were told there would be a further detailed explanation prior to boarding the ship, and that never happened. Therefore, when we arrived to Isla Contadora, we had no idea what to do. We bought a day pass from them, but don't do that because the day pass is for the beach in the worst condition on the island, Playa Gaona... save your money

The ferry service is very poor. They over packed the little ferry. No space to seat, we were left to seat on top of cooling containers. The ride was super bumpy. We had things faling from the roof into our heads.
Dont recommend this service at all.
