The simplicity and stained glass make it pretty to visit when you in Casco Viejo area, it's just opposite from Plaza Boliviar

A lovely church near the water's edge :)
Jan 2020
Nice-looking from outside although with "only one" tower and not two as usually seen at a church (but one with quite a bit of height and where inside its top part is also like a lovely spiral staircase), it was also an enjoyable visit (although just a fairly brief one) inside where on either side of the altar at the far end is a statue of Jesus & that of Saint Francis of Assisi and where there's also a brief biography of him (one who was born into wealth but who chose to accept the "social stigmata" for the life of helping the less fortunate). And although overall a "non-elaborate" interior, the lengths on the two sides are "not entirely bare" either (with some colorful statues on the small pedestals & such, but just not full-sized shrines & secondary altars as you might expect to see alongside the lengths of a cathedral). And yes, there's one thing about this church that I was quite grateful for which is an "air-conditioned interior" (making this place kind of an "ideal rest stop" during your walk around this "old town" area).

So yes, as one stop during the tour of the "old town" Casco Viejo (for which I would say "a whole day" is what's needed), be sure to also see at a close-up the "elaborate monument" for Simon Bolivar not only with his statue but also with some engraved scenes around its base & also a sculpture of a big bird like an eagle at the top of the monument (at the center of the small plaza in front of this church). And nearby which is actually just a very short walk from here (to the left & left again after coming out of this church) is an area at the edge of the water which I assume is like a bay or such as part of the sea (better sea views from some other parts of the city though); and also at just about a 5-minute walk from this church (in the opposite direction from that to the water's edge) is the city's "main cathedral" Catedral Metropolitana with just a "pretty awesome" front face comprising 13 statues which are those of the all 12 Apostles of Christ & that of the Virgin above them.

Beautiful and historic
Mar 2020
Historic churches tell so much about a place. They reflect a point in time like other architecture and provide a context to the area around it. Well worth a visit along with Plaza Bolivar out front.

Old/Historic Church

Beautiful old/historic church. Part of the Casco Viejo experience. Great windows and interior. Simple really, but serene and worthwhile.

Interesting church.

While taking a walking tour of Panama City with a group of Road Scholar travelers, we came upon this church which was not on the list of places to visit; however, since most of insisted that we visit, we did take a few minutes to look inside.
I'm guessing that a wedding was upcoming since so many live flowers were present around the altar.
Interesting things to view inside.

Beautiful church in the heart of Panama's Casco Viejo
Aug 2019
The Church of Saint of Saint Francis of Assisi is worth a visit. It is located right in front of Plaza Simon Bolivar.

The main altar is spectacular. It features a beautiful mosaic portraying the Virgin Mary in the center, stepping on a serpent, surrounded by angels and accompanied by Saint Francis of Assisi and Saint Francis Xavier; below, there are Jesuit saints and martyrs.

There are many ornaments in sumptuous marbles, figures such as Nuestra Señora del Pilar, San Judas Tadeo, San José, and San Francisco de Asis.

The air conditioned is wonderful, and it adds to your comfort while you enjoy a special moment of prayer and contemplation of the many details of this temple.

Beautiful historic church in
Casco Viejo next to Palacio Bolivar.
Features a relic from the 18th century Church of St Francis and a commemorative display to celebrate 500 years of Christianity since 1492.

Interesting mix of architectural styles.
Nov 2019 • Couples
Situated on the Plaza Simón Bolivar, which is also the site of the beautiful Simön Bolivar Palace, this church has survived 2 major fires back in the 17th century and was renovated to its current state back in 1918. It is an interesting mix of architectural styles and like the cathedral, it is bright and airy inside and features some amazing plain blue and clear windows as well as what appear to be fairly modern stained glass windows.
There are a number of interesting religious statues and is well worth a visit.

Soak it in
Jul 2019
Do this if this falls on your path in Casco Viejo. Just walk into as many buildings and spaces as you can... that's the beauty of it all.
