We took the train to go to "Zona Libre" in Colon. Very comfortable train ride, with nice views of the canal. It is a little expensive, $25 each way, for a one hour ride. But with the views, it's worth taking the train one way and taking a bus (< $4.00) the other direction. Do take your passport if your... More

If you have to go to Colon from Panama City or the reverse this is a way to go. I did not think it was a sightseeing trip since you normally saw jungle. There was no descriptive info on what woy were passing.

One of the first items to be built for the canal was the railroad. It allowed for the movement of material in and out of the canal cut. Now the railroad operates engines, called mules to assist in the movement of the ships through the canal. As many as 8 mules can be used depending on the size of the... More

I would like to recommend the railway to tourist but specially for Panamanians. It is an excellent trip to enjoy our tropical forest and have a look from a different perspective to the Canal effluents. The trip takes 1 hour and you will get a small snack box on board. People at the counter are very friendly and will help... More

The train is really comfortable with large windows to view the scenery. A light breakfast snack and coffee was also served. It was a very interesting ride and, coupled with an earlier trip on the canal in a boat, really made sense to take this train to get a big picture of the canal from the train point of view.

Here is how we did the train tour from Panama City on a Wednesday. We headed to Albrook Mall by Metro around 13:00. Inside the Bus Station there is a window for tickets to Colon, but a guard at the gate said an express bus was leaving and we could pay on the bus. Off we went after sitting for... More

We took the morning train to Colon. Our tour driver met us in Colon for the rest of the tour. The train was air conditioned and had restroom facilities. They served a light snack as part of the trip. You can sit in the air conditioned viewing cars or stand on the open air platforms with are better for photos.... More

Had a private tour guide that took us to Colon and caught the afternoon train back to Panama City. Very enjoyable ride, beautiful scenery along the route. Were able to see the locks as we passed. Very clean and fun experience.
