    Great hang out. Terrific food.
You want well prepared fresh seafood? This is it. I could have eaten there everyday. Econofish shrimp ceviche will have you dreaming about it once you leave. Lots of great seafood options, music, people watching..

    Monster Lobster
I heard lobster here was $7 a pound. It was more than that, but I got a huge one for $40. There are maybe 25 little restaurants in the market. They will all try to draw you in, but make sure to walk all way around and see what else is offered. My lobster came steamed with a not great sauce. I would have preferred grilled with butter, but didnt really know what I was ordering. If you love seafood and are in Panama this is not to be missed. Dress casual because its likely to get messy.

    Awesome fish market
Amazing fish market!! This alone would entice me to move to Panama City. The selection of fish is awesome and the prices are fantastic!! Very clean and well organized. There are also places to eat outside of the market. Totally recommend!!

    Fresh Fish
The fish market and the surrounding restaurants and businesses was a treat. We haggled for fresh fish, prawns and other treats which we cooked ourselves. Its fun, a bit smelly, and interesting. Not much English spoken there but that was no trouble at all.

When walking up into fish market people approach you with $10 meal offers. as you walk people will show you on the telephone what their meals look like And try to get you to eat there. I walk down toward the end by the water and a young man showed me pictures of their plates of food he did not tell me how much it would be . we got one plate of fried whole snapper with shrimp and one fillet of snapper with Langostinos. They said two free beers came with it of Balboa beer.
Our bill was almost $70. We drink the two free beers and two more and had two dinners.
because we were gringos they thought they could rip us off my husband has Panamanian citizenship so we did get a discount for his meal. my food was not like the picture the sauce was poured over the top of the fish and the prawns and ruin the fresh taste.
the waiter also said don’t forget the tip, really!

If in the city, and you want to see what a true fish market is, take time to visit this place. See the action in a real fish market, buy some very fresh fish and try one of the many restaurants within. Get there early! Restaurants open around 10-10:30.
Across the street is a fresh produce market as well!

The seafood is good and reasonably priced. My wife and I ate there three times, each time at a different stall. But to avoid annoyances it is best to be aware of a few unfair practices. All the stalls have Spanish and English menus and servers who try to persuade you to go to their’s. At busy times you can feel hassled. Promotions are offered that have little value and may be forgotten once you sit at a table. The servers recommend the most expensive dishes. Be clear about the price of the dishes and drinks you order. Some dishes come in different sizes and so different prices. Otherwise relax and enjoy the food.

Worth visiting the market, but seafood at El Bote PTY was horrible. The worst and most expensive dinner in Panama, maybe in my life. El Bote PTY, second restaurant by the entrance to Mercado de Mariscos. We chose the restaurant looking at the pictures of food on the waitress phone. Unfortunately we got nothing like pictures when the order of octopus and shrimp arrived. It was more like tv frozen dinners. Shrimp were tiny, octopus, also super tiny bits so gummy and horribly tasting, with the colleslow made out of 8 tiny shreds of cabbage. How do you serve that to people?

Tourist trap at it's best. What a waste of octopus.

We went there often while in Panama, it’s such a colorful and busy market. The fishermen come early in the morning and unload what they caught during the night. We had the best bbq with the freshest huge lobsters and prawns. Also you can bring what you bought and get it fried in the small stalls next to the market. They will prepare it their own way, which is also delicious (deep fry).

Fresh fish open market. Watched the fisherman bring their fresh catch in. The market was entertaining. The restaurants just outside market had cold beer, fresh delicious ceviché. Worth the visit. Took less than 1 hour. Walked from Casco Viejo

After perusing the stalls, we decided upon Ceviche Loco. To begin with, the waiter was very nice and helpful and lured us with two free beers and some free ceviche. The ceviche was ok, but nothing special and we have had much better in Bocas Del Toro. We ordered lobster and prawns - pointing to the specific items on the menu. Both meals were very average, with not a great deal of flavour. The prawns were listed on the menu as $14, and when the bill came out, they tried to charge us $35. We asked about the price difference and they said that it was a ‘special method of cooking’, which was in no way communicated to us when we pointed to the item on the menu. We compared other items on the menu that were cooked with this method and there was only a $4 difference to the standard version. They were trying to charge us an additional $21 for the so called special method. After negotiating with the still friendly waiter, he returned with a new bill, still trying to charge us $30 for the prawns - still double the listed price. We told him we would pay at most $20. He began to become increasingly angry and eventually we settled on $22 for the prawns. He punched the numbers into the visa machine and was very quite rude in the end despite us trying to be polite throughout the negotiations. Not recommended as an average meal was turned into a horrible experience by being overcharged!
