We invite you to step back in time with us on a tour to visit the Embera...

We invite you to step back in time with us on a tour to visit the Embera tribe who still live in traditional villages deep in the rainforest of Panama. The Embera people are proud to share their culture and traditions with visitors. Spending time on a day or overnight tour with the friendly Embera people will touch your heart and is an experience you will never forget. Our founder, Anne Gordon de Barrigon, is married to an Embera man and began these tours to share the beauty of her Embera family and friends with others.

Note: this page is for the tours offered by Anne Gordon de Barrigon's tour company, Embera Village Tours and not for other tour operators who also offer tours to visit other Embera villages throughout Panama.

Really enjoyed the trip the to Embera Indian village. We had the opportunity to walk around the village and view the thatched roof dwellings. We were treated to a wonderful lunch of fried Mai Mai and crisp plantain served in a local leaf type pod with fresh pineapple for desert. The Indians were friendly and accommodating to visitors and the... More

Our interest was to spend time at an authentic village. Not one that is put on for show. Where people live the life and we are treated as guest. After researching many tours we read the best review about ellie@emberavillagetours.com. Main differences from this tour and the ship offerings is one is a show of how life use to be... More

We had the best guide, Orlando Harris, through Turista. He provided lots of knowledge about the Embera tribe. We were treated with a nice hike to a waterfall first. At the village we were entertained by dances and even got to dance. The meal of Tilapia and plantains was excellent. Definitely a thumbs up experience!!

We took a private tour to one of the villages, so there were only 3 of us. Somehow they had not been informed of our arrival and weren't ready. Because we were a small group, there was no big show or demonstration. Having said that, those we talked with were friendly. One man gave us the history of the village,... More

Traveled with our 7 year old twin girls. They were excited about the experience and so were we. Tour starts with canoe ride up the river. Please note that the canoes are (naturally) not very stable and older people and especially younger kids need help getting in/out (one of our girls did not like the "wiggling" at all...). My only... We book this tour through Nexus Tours and we loved it! We were picked up at our hotel, Riu Playa Blanca then travelled around 3 hours to reach a river where we took a canoe maneuvered by an Embera adult member. The ride through the river was breathtaking. We reached the village and we were welcomed by the Embera members... More

My wife was told about this trip by a coworker, and booked it for a day we spent in Panama City. We got picked up at the hotel by our guide, Andre, and drove about 90 minutes to where we loaded ourselves into a dug-out canoe, and slowly motored to the Embera Village. Although they've obviously been affected by the... More

There are many companies that conduct these tours. We went with "emberavillagetours.com" because of it's authenticity and other great reviews. It was a fantastic experience. The people are friendly and welcoming. You will enjoy a wonderful 45 minute ride up river. As others have indicated the seats a bit hard so take something to sit on if that may be... More

My goal was for my children to experience a different culture, and that they did. We had a wonderful time starting with a drive by of the Panama Canal. Followed by a boat ride and then spending the day in the village. Got to have a traditional lunch and see some traditional dances as well. Also spent some time with... More

First, this tour was NOT the Panama City hotel pickup, this was a tour from Princess cruise ship Coral. We took a Princess ships' tour of the Embera Indian Village as part of a Canal Zone cruise. We relied on the reviews here and were not disappointed. This is an authentic small village and not something "set up". There were... More
