The trip started with a 6:00 AM checkin at the boat office. They loaded us onto a foot passenger ferry with a capacity for about 300 people and we were about half full which meant that we were not crammed in or overcrowded and there was plenty of space to spread out. We headed off and were called in groups for breakfast and later lunch. We arrived at our disembarkation point (Gamboa) around 2:00 PM, got on buses that returned us to the boat office arouund 2:40 PM. We thoroughly enjoyed the day and found it to be very interesting. The boat guide gave a commentary in English and Spanish of the highlights throughout the trip, answered any questions people had and gave a general history of the canal and the local area. We had our hotel, located in the old town, call us an Uber or Lyft ride to get us to the boat office in the morning ($5) and there were a couple taxis hanging around the boat office when the bus drpped us off in the afternoon so we grabbed one of them to take us back to our hotel ($15). We would highly recommend this. The locks were interesting, the whole process was interesting and educational and we found it to be a very lovely day's activity. The breakfast and lunches were what you would ecpect on something like this, line up and go through a serving line, eat at a chair with the plate on your lap. Cold bottled water was available free at all times as was hot coffee, cold beer was available at $3 per can. We would suggest that they should consider offering small (200/250 ml) bottles of chilled wine and soft drinks or juices for sale also.

An absolutely flawless trip!! We did the city tour and also extended to do a cross country tour to las lajas and boquete with barefootpanama and loved every second of it. It was organised to the last detail and included everything we wanted and more.
Gonzo our guide in the city tour was extremely knowledgeable and went above and beyond to show us ‘the real Panama City’.
We then went cross country with Kevin to experience the beaches around coronado, the stunning la Laguna, el Valle waterfalls & hike and onto las lajas with it’s beautiful beaches, then finally ending in beautiful boquete.
Kevin has been touring people around Panamá for well over 10 years so he knows every last detail and secret spot, including the best hotels to stay at. We were taken to places that weren’t even on the list of our tour and not charged a cent more.
We spoke with and compared prices with other tour operators and Barefootpanama was by far the most competitive and definitely most professional.

We are already speaking with kevin to organise another trip to the Caribbean side of panama in a month or so, as we really don’t want to miss anything or have the hassle of organising a trip like that. Looking Forward to it already.

Timely early pick up at our hotel for the historic train/ Gatun locks tour. Our driver Jorge was knowledgeable, knew the ropes on how to move his group through check in at the train station and locks. He was an excellent driver on the road through the national park to the old Fort San Lorenzo, skillfully negotiating the way around many pot holes while keeping a sharp eye out overhead for monkeys and sloths. We enjoyed the small group experience and would highly recommend this tour, especially for mixed ages or mobility needs.

We booked a tour of Isle Taboga with Barefoot. It happened to be pouring rain. Our trip included a tour of the island, beach umbrellas and lunch. We had to get ourselves to and from the ferry. Fee was $75/per person. Upon being greeted on Taboga in pouring rain our guide gave us a personal umbrella and walked us to the beach were we stood under an awning for 30 min. I asked if we could walk to get a coffee instead of standing around and we walked up to a hut. Our guide didn’t mention our one hour island tour. After about another 30 min our guide said our beach umbrella and chairs were set up. We were walked back to the beach and our guide left, and never came back. We were in the pouring rain and left the umbrella which had holes to stand under an awning again. My husband decided to change into his swim trunks however the closest bathrooms were locked and we had no idea where to use a restroom. Around 1:10 our lunch server came to get us for lunch. At this point it was not raining and would’ve been a great time for a tour however our guide was no where to be found. Lunch was fine.
Don’t take this tour and spend the money. Take the ferry and spend time on the beach. You can rent chairs and umbrellas and you can also eat at any restaurant on your own.
When we did not pay another tour with Barefoot that we reserved they reached out and we shared our experience. Barefoot blamed us for not reaching out, blamed the third party they use and took no responsibility, even though we paid Barefoot directly. Disappointing.

Usually, we can control the rain.. AND we explained this was not a barefootpanama tour.. not sure what part of that you STILL dont understand.. we put you on a ferry and you get THE taboga island concierge . . you did not tell us about the problem, you just refused to pay for your next tour.. i tried to get you a refund, but thew taboga people said, after the rain you did the tour making this whole review a big fat lie.. classy

Our family (kids 8 & 10) traveled from the US to spend ten days in Panama. Barefoot Panama put together a custom package of reasonably priced day trip activities for us. My only regret was not doing more through them. We had several days on our own, and didn't use our time efficiently - it's worth the expense for the depth of experience they provide. I'm used to relying on travel books, but my 2019 Lonely Planet was completely worthless - most of the places they recommended closed due to the pandemic. The proprietor of Barefoot Panama, Kevin, is originally from the US, but has been providing tours in Panama for 20 years, so he really knows the country, and communication was easy. The two guides we worked with, Gonzo and Nico, were both Panamanians, but fluent in English, so communicating with them was easy too. Gonzo led us on the Monkey Island tour, and my kids thought he was hilarious. They also enjoyed chatting with Nico, whose college background is in biology and has done some field work with the Smithsonian, and who led us on our snorkeling tour near Portobello. Kevin led us on a great hike in El Valle - La India Dormida is a popular up and back hike, but he has figured out a back route on local paths that makes it a great loop. We also did a day trip to Taboga. The guides were all fun and great with kids. Overall, super easy to work with, socially and environmentally conscious, great company, and really indispensable given all the changes due to the pandemic.

I highly recommend booking the zip-wire tour with Barefoot Panama. It was a highlight of the holiday and an experience I will never forget. The team were friendly, exceptionally safety conscious, calm and patient which made me feel safe. The views were stunning! The tour guide who picked us up from the hotel and drove us to the location also talked about the history of Panama which was an added bonus. A truly amazing experience.

We did the full day San Blas Islands tour from Panama City. Not worth it. Yes, the islands are beautiful, but you only really get to enjoy two of them for an hour each (out of a total of 13 hours the trip lasts). Most of the time you’re stuck on a car or boat for very long rides. In addition, this trip felt disorganized. When we got to the “boat terminal,” our driver went around to a bunch of different boat operators trying to figure out which group we were in, which was different from the rest of the people in our car. Speaking of the driver, he drove unsafely and unprofessionally (too fast, loud music, talking on the phone). He did not give us any information about the journey time nor where we were. The car was also extremely uncomfortable and too small, especially given we were in a group with two extremely obese people which meant there wasn’t really space for 6 passengers yet the driver squeezed us all in. Another example of disorganization is when we arrived at the second island (where we were supposed to have TWO hours), we waited an hour seated at picnic tables for our lunch order that had apparently not been correctly communicated by our guide, which was a HUGE waste of time. Last, but not least, at no point on this tour do you get any info about the local indigenous community nor the islands… nothing! So you’re basically paying $340 (for two people) for two hours of beach time. Totally not worth it!

We totally enjoyed this tour. The train ride gave us a different perspective of the canal and then we were taken by van to the Agua Clara locks to see and learn how they operated. Next was lunch at a restaurant nearby followed by a visit to the San Lorenzo fort. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone interested in learning about the engineering aspect of the canal system. Barefoot Panama also did an excellent job of communicating with us as to pickup times and answering any questions we posed.

Thanks so much for working with us to make this trip happen. Since our time in Panama City was too short to accommodate an overnight trip to the Atlantic/Caribbean side, I was excited to discover Barefoot Panama's day trip. Our hotel pick-up was right on time, with Teresa driving and accompanying us throughout the day. We enjoyed a smooth ride across the isthmus to Colon and on to Portobelo. First business was the lunch order, although we later learned they were NOT included in tour price. White sand provided for easy snorkel visibility as we stopped in two separate locations (one from beach, the other from boat). It was a worthwhile and memorable day away from the big city and a chance to view Panama's laid back "Island" vibe. Highly recommend Barefoot Panama. Kudos to Teresa who brought her enthusiasm for her Panama!

We had a fantastic day trip with Gonzo. Very knowledgeable guide and passionate presenter of his country. Very well organized tour on a tight schedule with several stops.
If you have to choose only one day trip in Panama, I would highly recommend the Panama canal & city tour by Barefoot Panama.
