Running out of tourist attractions to visit in Granada, I decided to visit instead the attractions in Managua. I took the public bus that goes to UCA Terminal in Managua. Cost is 47 cordobas per person or about US$ 1.10.

This is one of the attractions I visited with my driver/guide that I hired . There is a 10 cordoba entrance fee, free for seniors to enter. There are many restaurants located at this attraction. Nipa nuts located along the water can be used to eat the foods ordered from the restaurants.

There is a small park with a statue of Sandino and brief explanations of the revolution. A boat is parked along the Malecon, but there was no one to ask where this boat goes.

It appeared that the best time to visit this attraction is when the sun set down and weather gets cooler.

Very nice place to walk by night, listen to music, watching people and have a dinner. Especially now in front of Christmas it is really beautiful with all kind of light illustrations. The area is safe also by night and is suitable also for families.

This waterfront area is a beautiful sprace with a lot of colourful decorations and pretty straw covered cabanas to sit under. This is a nice place to have a stroll and there are a few food kiosks with different international cuisines where you can buy something to eat. When we were there we were lucky enough to spot the resident crocodile swimming in the water nearby. This area used to be a dangerous area to visit, but it has been cleaned up in recent years and we felt very safe walking around here during the day. There’s plenty of parking and we paid 60 cordobas for parking.

The "malecon" is a nice place to visit at night, but not during the mornings or afternoons. We went during the afternoon and although it was open, most things were closed. There is much improvement in the "malecon" and now you need to pay to get in. The price is per visitor I believe. There is security in the front who will also direct you to the prices in cordobas. We went to the malecon in the afternoon and during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic; and most things were closed. I imagine it is bustling at night; and much better. There is a go kart track and company and there is also a newer strip mall area being built at the end of the malecon. The infamous lit up trees are still there. The view is spectacular in the mornings and you can see the water and the volcano's in the distance. There are many areas to sit and they also come with shade.

It is generally a nice area, but I think we would have a better experience pre COVID-19 and if we went during the night. It is beautiful in the day, but not much going on and with most things closed; it could have been better.

A great place to visit in the morning and even better at night as the place becomes even more alive with all the sights and lights.

An amazing place to be!

I totally recommend visiting the Puerto Salvador Allende Malecon, but you'll enjoy it more if you consider it a trip inside the subtly surreal vision created by the current government, an ultra-pastel shaded, haphazardly planned collection of "things tourists like" that includes an eternal flame that is never lit and a massive quantity of painted concrete. There are go-karts and overpriced, mediocre restaurants (that do enjoy a prime location) and a population of feral cats. The first time I went, at night around the Christmas season, it was adorned with a disorienting quantity of neon lights and bright decorations. It's entirely different than the rest of Managua. At the moment it is strangely empty due to the crisis, but to some extent that adds to the weirdness of the ambiance.

Puerto Salvador Allende is slowly coming back to what it used to be before the 2018 civil unrest. There are lots more activities to do and places to eat within backpacker budget range especially for casual dining. There's also a jet skiing rentals kiosk so you can jet ski on the very huge and picturesque Lake Managua. It's a lot more popular with locals than Malecon de Granada and a lot safer. There is a tour boat that goes across the lake and so you can see Managua and surrounding hills from a lake view. There are a few tour operators within walking distance near the malecon. City and lake tours were roughly between 20 and 40 USD per person. As I said food is not as cheap as in the smaller towns around Managua, but prices were affordable enough for a tight budget. If you're not into spending money at food stands or restaurants that you bring a small cooler with snacks you can get from one of the local markets in Managua and chow down while sitting on one of the many benches all around the malecon. Get a great view of the lake as well as people watch while eating or having a cool drink. If you enjoy walking with lots of people around under the brilliant Nicaraguan sun, then this is the place. I was told people also stroll along the malecon at night. We left before sunset due to the long drive we had ahead. As with any popular promenade type tourist attraction, be wise, not flashy and use your phone for pix and videos not a camera. Parking is not free nearby and may be a challenge as well as pricey. Many locals take the bus and walk which is what we did. Have fun and enjoy Lake Managua!

So many things to do. All restaurants (even one inside a ship), kids activities, a large walk if you want to just do that. Safe and well kept touristy area in Nicaragua's Capital city.

From there you can an excellent view of the lake. However, by visiting this place you are contributing to the the regime of Ortega-Murillo, and participating of the "everything is ok in Nicaragua" that they want to sell.

Our driver took us through on a tour and the place is like an amusement park with lots of restaurants and snack places. Along the waterfront and you pay to drive in. I guess families would like it and the locals too.
