Great, large beach!

Although it is not really a beach to lay down (too much wind) you can surf, have nice walks along the beach and a beautiful sunset! Te beach is huge! How to get there? I know a... read more

As many other places along the Central America Pacific coast, this beach is ok but not so impressive. Positives: + Very long beach, great for walking, watching sunsets and chill +Close to other spots and beaches, if you are driving, or if you can have long long walks +Magnific Rock, I really liked that place +Lots of locations for surfers,... Although it is not really a beach to lay down (too much wind) you can surf, have nice walks along the beach and a beautiful sunset! Te beach is huge! How to get there? I know a bus is leaving at 11 am from Rivas, but is was totally full, so we took a taxi. Which costs $20. The only... More

As soon as we got here we just had to walk the beach which took an hour..it's huge! Surfers heaven crashing waves for miles! A little quiet at this time of year but picking up. But if you want to chill out and get away from everything it's perfect! Stayed at Hotel Popoyo which is the best place in the... More

My wife and I chose Popoyo beach because the web would have you believe that this is a little surfing town with several attractions nearby. NOT TRUE!!! Upon arriving we discovered our hotel (Buena Onda) was located in a corn field with nothing nearby. The beach is rocky, and the nearby attractions are NOT nearby. Upon discovering all of this... The beaches of Popoyo are lovely. They are renowned for the excellent surfing. The beaches are very clean and have areas of white sand, black sand, and rocks. Often, we were the only people in sight. The waves are beautiful and strong. This is ideal for amazing surfing, but not ideal for folks who want to just chill out and... More

I enjoy Popoyo for many reasons. Number one being the Rancho above where you can get out of the heat and enjoy the views, good music, grab a bite to eat, something cold drink. It's one of the safest beaches I've ever been on worldwide. The views are stunning and the surfers make good eye candy.

Playa Popoyo is. One of the great surfing spots in Nicaragua. The waves can get absolutely huge, but they seem restricted to the far northern end of the beach area, leaving the front beach quite acceptable for swimming. There are plenty of bars and small restaurants right on the beach. The winds were very extreme when we visited in February,... More

this little beach city has alot to offer. Plenty of little hotels with good cheap food, cold Tonas and an amazing view. Has a sand bottom beach for kids to play in when the surf isnt too big. A few minute walk, there is a world renoun surf break (both rights and lefts) that breaks over a reef. A bit... More

Popoyo beach is a great area for surfing! Just be aware that it is not an area where you can really swim. At the time we visited (January) we learned that it is known to be quite windy (January and February, actually). There were moments on the beach where we felt we were in a sand storm and couldn't really... More

Returned for third year to my small family-owned hotel right on this magnificent beach incorrectly listed by this website..as I pointed out in last yearz's review, Popoyo beach rightly famous for its professional break surf is further North past the MagnificRock hotel which sits high on the point if land betweenvthectwo beaches. The nearby Rancho Santana gated community and boutique... More
