This was such a special treat! Adonis, our tour guide from Salvadorean Tours offered to take us here before the Half Day San Salvador City Tour. He even acted as our guide, which was great since most signs were in Spanish with very little English. A great guide, a great company, and a very interesting private collection of Mayan artifacts.

This is a large, modern museum in central Zona Rosa. It contains a large collection of relatively recent Mayan/Salvadoran anthropological artifacts. Older Mayan history is underrepresented but the displays present an extensive panorama of Salvadoran culture over the last several centuries. Exhibits are curated in both Spanish and English. This museum is highly recommended but not if the visitor's main objective is ancient Mayan history. Entrance fee is US$10.

Pre-Columbian artifacts, Mayan, on display. So are Colonial period exhibits. Not extensive but interesting and informative. I've been to some Mayan sites, but I have others I want to visit, including Copan. This museum is a must if you have any interest in Mesoamerican culture and history.

An excellent museum collection that gives insights into the peoples who settled the region in pre-columbian times. The display are well curated and the space and gardens are lovely. The only short coming is that the signage and notes displayed are to few and some are marred by inaccurate English translations.

Expensive for foreign tourists 10 USD. Good place for foreigners residing in Elsalvador, Central American 3 USD and for Salvadorans 1 USD. Quiet place and can know the history but why foreign tourists have to pay 10 times more expensive, although there are no overtourists? Nothing crowded, nothing full of visitors.

I recently visited the anthropology museum for the 3rd time. There is always something new to see, and it's hard to see everything in one visit. This time there was a special exhibit on migration throughout the history of El Salvador. Especially moving were the photos and stories of the migration of women. Many of the explanations for the exhibits are in Spanish and English. The museum is in an area with other sites to visit. Definitely a must for history buffs.

A very pleasant surprise! This museum is a real jewel in San Salvador. You have a very interesting collection of precolombian artifacts as well as colonial period. Most of the explanations are in spanish and english. Also very interesting the room dedicated to the development of agriculture. Very touching the part dedicated to the civil war. A special thanks to the free guide Adelina who proved to be very professional and prepared on the history of El Salvador. Besides, being a disabled person I really appreciated the barrier-free museum. The only negative point the absence of books about the museum. In any case thumbs up!

Discovered this museum and it was a nice treat to see the history of the region. The museum is laid out nicely with descriptions in Spanish and sometimes English with a small outdoor area. They have a gift shop but it was closed when we visited.

This is probably the biggest museum in San Salvador. Went with family and kids and had a nice time learning about regional culture. You can see all exhibitions in a couple of hours.

A beautiful building with good archaeology & history exhibits. Even includes information about current issues like gangs and migration from El Salvador. Plus the museum cafe serves great expresso in a lovely setting.
