Built by Kiev monks back in 1051, this striking building is the most holy place in the Ukraine. The caves on the property serve as burial grounds for monks.

Loved climbing the bell tower and wandering the grounds. The caves were confusing without a guide, and we often weren’t sure where we were allowed to go as four non-Orthodox tourists, so I think a guide would have been a great addition to the experience.

It is a beautiful and important site to visit. Pay attention since it is not so easy to understand the way of caves to visit. It is with to have a guide and spend at lest 2 hours over there

Yes, though you may not be able to get into some churches during services. Make sure any women have a head covering (we were though in -10C, so I obviously had a very warm hat!
