This museum is close to Pechersk Lavra so after visiting that we stopped by here. Liked the collection of painted Easter eggs and the photos of people wearing traditional Ukrainian dress. There are also paintings, musical instruments, etc.

I had the opportunity to pay a quick visit to the Ivan Honchar museum today and I was impressed by the collection of art and artifacts on display. The diversity of objects helps to give you a pretty good picture of everyday life around Ukraine in the 18th and 19th centuries.

There are great displays of religious iconography and various other religious objects. I also particularly liked the displays of traditional Ukrainian clothing.

Admission is very reasonable. Given the close proximity to Pecherska Lavra, I would recommend that tourists in the area should also plan on taking in this museum to supplement a visit to the larger attraction.

Though it is registered as "Ivan Gonchar Museum" to Tripadvisor, the correct name of this museum is "Ivan Honchar Museum". It's named after its founder, Ivan Makarovych Honchar (January 27, 1911 – June 18, 1993) – renowned community and cultural activist, sculptor, painter, graphic artist, and self-taught ethnographer and collector of Ukrainian folk art and culture.

Located between tourist wise crowded Pechersk Lavra and Great Patriotic War Museum, this museum has a great spot, yet, it's almost deserted. When we visited, even the lights were turned off as there were no other visitors than us.

The museum is open from 10 am to 5:30 pm every day except on Monday and last day of each month. The entrance fee is very small but they charge extra in case you want to take photographs (it seems to be a common custom at every museum in Ukraine)

Though it is said that around 30.000 collection items are displayed in the museum, what we saw was a very limited part of it, or this is what our impression was. There were limited English explanations on the displays and majority of the displays were ethnographic items, though there was a small section of paintings and religious artefacts as well.

The whole tour of the museum did not even take 30 minutes. It was kind of disappointing for us.

There are other much more impressive museums in Kiev, so, in case you have limited time, you can skip it.

A very great preservation of Ukrainian Culture with paintings, clothing, instruments and all that the Ukrainian Rich Culture is made from and why. A must see while in Kiev. We were blessed with performances from the Folk Group.
