Get a golf cart
Sep 2021
The day we went was really spectacular. So great to be hanging out in an open air museum on such a great day. There's a lot of walking. The directions/map are not very helpful. Highly recommend renting a golf cart to see all the homes (we did not). The tour guide we got was mediocre. We got one or two unique nuggets about life in Ukraine back in the day, but not much actual detail. That was a little disappointing.

Great place!

If you interested in getting to know better the country you are visiting, its history and traditions, then this is the place for you.
We had a fantastic tour with a group of my British colleagues and please give your self a favor ordering a guided tour. A very dedicated guide Alexandra was exceptionally good at telling everything about the Ukrainian way of life back in the days. Even though it was my 3d tour to this place, every time I am learning something new. You will have a tour with her through one of the 6 areas and then will have plenty of time to walk around on your own, have a picnic or getting a good lunch at one of many places at the spot. The food is very good!

A must-see museum in Kyiv
Apr 2021 • Friends
We went to this beautiful place when Kyiv was still in lockdown. We enjoyed walking while admiring the beauty of old wooden houses and windmills. This is a great place to breathe fresh air and learn about the old Ukrainian villages.

unusual museum

I love open-air museums and this one is great! It’s kind of cheap, however, it’s difficult to get here by public transport. You should notice that it’s closed on Wednesdays! They offered and English-speaking tour guide, which was awesome, it’s difficult to get to know something without knowledge of Ukrainian language in Kiev… I realized it during my research which tours I can book. I booked a tour from Kyiv Military Tours and it was also very exciting. Their English skills were beyond praise…

Needed some outside time in the sunshine.

What a great outdoor space. This is a very large park with buildings and displays of various areas of Ukraine. Totally worth a visit. One caution, public transportation is not very reliable to get to the park entrance.

Taste of Old Ukraine
Aug 2019
This is a little village out in the country frozen in time. Everything is interesting there. Go on a sunny day. You need to drive there, so arrange a comfortable car/taxi to take you there & bring you back before you go. Tasty traditional food is for sale in cool old style vendors & just seeing the food on display is worth the visit. It's a huge place, so be careful you don't walk too far from the entrance! Rent bikes or whatever to see the whole place. At the entrance there are English speaking guides, which are not expensive. I spent about 4 hours there. Good fresh air, sunshine, excellent food & beer, the smell of grilled meat... fantastic. The old style houses are cool too. You can go in & look around. It's not some boring museum like in Europe where you just look at it from a distance. You can walk right in rooms & check it out properly. Excellent site!

An amazing ethnographic museum
Mar 2019
I visited the museum with friends from Kiev. They hired an English speaking guide. The museum is set on undulating terrain, pleasant for long walks (bikes can be hired and there are also restaurants and shops). Buildings have been reconstructed that cover, over time and space, the ethnographic history of Ukraine: churches, villages, windmills and even schools. It takes a long time to be truly appreciated. Unfortunately I visited it on a beautiful but cold late winter day. I hope to visit it again soon.

A wonderful way to experience Ukrainian History
Sep 2019
This outdoor museum consists of many buildings from the last 3 centuries that have been transported here from all over the Ukraine. You get a great feel for how folk people in the Ukraine used to live. I highly rcommend this attraction.

PERFECT FOR AN AUTUMN DAY
Oct 2019
It was both a very interesting tour and beautiful. Not only the construction of the buildings but the surrounding gardens and tree foliage. I had a wonderful guide for this tour and she made it feel like I was with a dear friend and not just a guide. There was such beauty in the simplicity of the construction and the tools used. This was one of my favorite tours there and such a perfect place for a family outing. There was some great foods being cooked and sold and there was a stage set up for entertainment.
