The location of the National Assembly is notable because it is on top of a Turkish Mosque which was demolished when Serbia regained independence in 1878. It was a statement that the new government was no longer under Turkish rule or religious order.
We only visited this as a photo opportunity because it is such a beautiful building. It was established as a cultural icon in 1984. We took our pictures in the day but passed by at night in a taxi and it is beautiful at night as well.

The National Assembly Building is a very impressive structure. We were impressed by the beauty of the building and enjoyed the stay at the very nice park which is just a few steps behind. The building of the House of National Assembly, originally the House of Representatives, began to be built in 1907 as a representative building for the needs of the Kingdom of Serbia. The Assembly Building represents a monumental academic building. It is worth admiring. The rich history and way of construction and time of construction make this building particularly interesting. Interior with corridors, large plenary hall, small plenary hall, vestibul (entrance hall) , dome, monumental staircase are not left indifferent anybody. Just magical. The interior of the library is thoughtful to the details, and the furniture is shaped in a national spirit. Amazing place for architecture lovers . If you are near you definitely need to visit.

Beautiful building, gorgeously lighted at night. One of the main attractions in the downtown.

Built in the period since 1907. to 1936. The outbreak of World War II led to construction delays. Architect John Ilkić took the idea of a Constantine. Jovanovic and planned the building. Great influence on the interior gave Paul Ilkić and Nikolai Krasnov. Parliament has been active since 20 October 1936th

Looks quite noble, compared to the eclectic image of old Belgrade, thus majestic and delivering sence of governing authority. A n8ce to see place.

I loved to stop by this building at night and think; it's one of the most important palaces in Belgrade (and in ex-Jugoslavia) regarding contemporary history, and it is perfectly illuminated.

The National Assembly of Serbia is great architectural building (for me it is one of the most beautiful parliament in Europe) and is placed in the city center of Belgrade next to the central post office building (which is also nice to check when you are there). I am surprised because here you can not read lot of reviews about this very important historical and political spot for the whole Balkan. Construction was finish 1936 and on beginning it was parliament of Yugoslavia so through many years on this place were made some of the most important political decisions. When Montenegro finally split from Serbia this building again start to be used like Serbian parliament which has remained to this days and if you are "lucky" maybe you can see some of deputies on their brake or maybe more often how they run inside of the building. At night, the lights around and inside of the parliament are simply amazing so my advice is to go there when sun goes down. P.S. One interesting thing which you probably do not know is that parliament from PC game "Half Life 2" is actually National Assembly of Serbia. The creators of this very popular game took a sketch from Belgrade and modeled exactly the same building.

Very impressive building built in the early 20th century. The evening is very well lit. Unfortunately, every time I passed by here there were some repairs

I definitely couldn't get enough of the views we had while walking by it at night. The Christmas lights all around gives it a totally different perspective! Phenomenal architecture with great decorative features!
