Fabulous exhibit

We were greeted by a very nice young man who showed us which way to go. Quite a bit in English. Gave us a very good overview of the postal service in Yugoslavia and Serbia. And we were given some postcards for free.

I finally found it after a long walk on a hot day.as I entered a young lady came upon to me and apologised for. The fact that the display was only in Serbian.I made the best of it and wandered around.it seemed interesting and well set out.I tried to open the stamp drawers but they were closed.so not my most memorable visit too. A postal museum.

Worth a visit

This is a highly significant technical museum of the history of postal, telegraph, telephone, radio and TV systems in Serbia for the last 200 years, from the founding of the Serbian automonous principality within the Ottoman empire, through the 1878 kingdom of Serbia, the Balkan wars, the First World War, the founding of the kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes in 1918, the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, SFRJ under Tito, and the modern Republic of Serbia.

Noteworthy and consequential items include a horse-driven mail coach 1860s used by the Austro-Hungarians, made in Britain [it has a driver's right hand seat for driving on the left hand side of the road], the memorabilia of a Serb [appointed by Obrenovic] to act a diplomatic courier in the Ottoman empire for the British government, a world class stamp collection, wall mounted induction telephone instruments of the kind used in many early Hollywood films of the 1920s and 30s, Baudot telegraph machines, Morse telegraph machines, information on the significance of Nikola Tesla in the history of wireless telegraphy, much other historical telephone and telegraphic equipment.

Do not miss.
