This monument was definitely well created and put in the perfect spot. It is located inside the fortress, and to the left when you walk in. It was so majestic especially at sunset with the river and city lights in the background!

In the fortress of Kalemegdan in Belgrade facing the confluence of the Sava and Danube it is today the monument of "the Victor" - or Pobednik.
If you take a guided tour of the fortress once you get here the guide will explain you some more interesting stories of Pobednik. First - he is naked (...and originally had an oversized ... well you'll learn about it and originally it was facing the direction of Istanbul), it was on display in several places, in the city , in the fortress and finally at its current display he "found his place" in the fortress of Belgrade.... and there are some more trivia to be learned about this unusual memorial to victory over the Ottomans and later over the Austrian - Hungarian empire.
Visiting is for free - as it is the entrance into the fortress of Belgrade - Kalemegdan.
For those of you into history, for sure it is worth a stop for a few minutes.
Go see for yourself it can be very interesting.

The iconic monument created in 1913 and erected in 1928 is a symbol of Serbia’s victory over both the Ottoman Empire and the Austro-Hungarian empire. The statue faces away from tourists like us and looks out toward the Sava and Danube rivers. The statue was recently repaired in 2020 since it was exposed to the elements for almost 100 years.
When we were there, there were barriers to prevent people getting too close because he was tilting a bit. Our guide said that there was lots of controversy with the statue because he is nude.
He faces the Sava and Danube rivers but plenty of people were trying to get a frontal view with their cameras. The statue and base have been repaired as of Valentine's Day, 2020 and he's no longer tilting.

This is the Nelson's Column of Belgrade. It is located on the walls of Belgrade fortress, looking out over the point when the Rivers Sava and Danube converge. It was built to commemorate Serbia's victory over Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian Empire during the Balkan Wars and the First World War. Worth seeing and an excellent photo opportunity.

Lost during my walk along the Banks of the Rivers, I used it as my guiding landmark. As long as I could see it, I knew I was heading towards the right direction of the Belgrade Fortress.
Even when I was already inside the Fortress, I continued to ask where I could find it . Alas I found it, took several pictures, and enjoyed the views of the 2 rivers from here!

One of the most well-known symbols of Belgrade.
Great views and amazing air.
In a need for renovation though.

One of the interesting things that can be spotted in the Belgrade fortress. Seems very popular, I saw a lot of ladies trying to take funny pictures - quite complicated but not impossible.

Created by sculptor, Ivan Meštrović, Pobednik (The Victor) is a distinctive monument on the Belgrade city skyline. It represents the victory of Serbia over the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian Empire.
