We must have walked past this square and statue ten to fifteen times while staying in Bucharest! It is a great landmark and very helpful in finding your way around the main areas of Bucharest. Our hotel was just down the street, the metro is right there, very convenient. It is very large and very attractive, the circle drive goes all around the square with this statue in the center. The area is very busy with pedestrians and cars.

Just like numerous other statues in other cities, this is also a good spot to snap a few pictures and move-on.

Carol I was the first king of Romania who helped gain Romanian independence from the Ottoman Empire. He was crowned King in 1881 and it is said his crown was made from melted steel of a Turkish canon captured during one of the wars of independence. His 48-year reign resulted in a time of prosperity, reform and a national state for Romania. Romanians respected him for his leadership, German ethics, and military leadership.

In front of the University Library is a massive bronze statue of the King who ruled for four decades, who was responsibible for uniting the four kingdoms that became Romania, and for the large scale re-developed that resulted in Bucharest being nicknamed "Little Paris".

The statue is very big, trust me you cannot miss it. When you get closer to it you will also have the chance to appreciate the attention to detail they had while making it. I would say totally worth a picture. Also it will be on your way to most museums and its even infront of one. So its not even a d-tour.
