- traveller_EZ409 contributionsSmall ZooDespite stating they are open all week on their website, they are closed on Mondays, as we discovered only after we made the trip all the way there (not a short journey), which was disappointing. We arrived on a different day that same week and did go inside. It's not a large zoo, most cages seem to hold only a single animal, most of which seemed bored, tired and overheated. Although the place is generally nicely designed, especially the Zerba water coolers, it makes me wonder what they were thinking when most of the animals are placed in grounds, surrounded by a tight gate, then large bushes and then - yet another gate, practically making sure no child could have any view of the animal inside unless climbing and then jumping on one of the benches or raised up by their parent. It could have been designed to give youngsters more access to the animals, since that is the main attraction, after all. Although the sign in the entrance had a Giraffe, none was seen in the Zoo itself and overall, there isn't too large a selection of animals. Still, a nice place to visit for an hour or two with children and not too expensive, just make sure they're open.Visited June 2022Written July 13, 2022
- Ian D T9 contributionsEnjoy a couple of hours at the zooThe Zoo is a little run down but still a very worthwhile experience. A decent spread of animals from around the world but not very large so you can stroll round and see everything in a couple of hours. If you take photos with your phone it is free, but you have to buy an additional ticket (15 Lei) for a proper camera Excellent value for money.Visited November 2022Traveled soloWritten November 4, 2022
- Michaela TClacton-on-Sea, United Kingdom26 contributionsGoodAnimals are very close and easy to see. Enclosures a bit small, but animals look happy and in good condition. Jaguar, lions, tigers, lynx, wolves. Good selection. We spent almost 2 hours here. Its a long way out of the city for a small zoo, but definitely worth a visit Very disappointed in there not being a gift shop ! I love a souvenir.Visited January 2020Traveled with friendsWritten January 13, 2020
- Joe MicaBirgu (Vittoriosa), Malta10 contributionsMagic snowy zooVery good price for entrance €6 each. Very long roads and wide on each side well kept animals. Also there are rooms with species' and large room with parrots, cockatiel and budgies also lovebirds. There are self cleaning toilets which I must say they were really clean. Staff welcomed us and showed us the way.we were first persons to arrive so we felt great on our own with loads of snow among us and snowing too.....it,s a nice place to visit and all it cost for taxi from central Bucharest to zoo was 40 lei around €8.Visited January 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten February 5, 2023

- BucharestTravelBucharest, Romania136 contributionsWhen to visit Bucharest ZooWe have visited Bucharest Baneasa Zoo in May. It is the perfect weather this zoo garden and all the gardens in Bucharest, for it is not too hot yet as the summer is about to begin, neither cold like in November and so on. This only problem we had was that all the animals were sleeping. So, if you want to know when to visit the Bucharest Zoo, let's say never do this at about 13 PM. The animals are quite fine, you have a lot of space, you have lions, tigers, exotic birds to see, also camels, crocodiles, snakes. Not to mention that after visiting the Zoo you can have some wee ones or anything else you want to eat and some beer outside the garden, just across the street. A ticket for an adult is 13 RON, which is 3 EUROS.Visited May 2016Traveled with familyWritten June 14, 2016
- Christina H92 contributionsClean and shady on a hot dayThe place is small, there are not too many animals, but it's clean and peaceful (and ridiculously cheap). I paid a visit on a hot day with my two daughters (3,8 and 5) and it was a very pleasant experience. There are big trees, benches, some peaceful music, clean enough toilets (no fee) and wooden children carriages (also free). Small as it is, we spent over 3,5 hours inside and we did't get bored.Visited May 2015Traveled with familyWritten June 3, 2015

Its not huge but have some interesting animals. A section is dedicated to reptiles and fishes, and a section for small birds. It is clean and have lot of benches to sit around. it is far from city center and can be reached by taking auto bus No. 301 from piata romana and stop name is "gradina zoologica" or you may take taxi, may cost around 30-35 RON from city center. The entrance fee is 13 RON and reduced fee for students 6.5 RON. What i don't like is addition ticket for the camera 13 RON but still cheap and manageable. If you have small children, they will enjoy.!Visited July 2014Traveled with familyWritten July 29, 2014
- Sue PLondon, United Kingdom264 contributionsOk zoo, very unfriendly staffWe recently went here for the afternoon as my daughter works with animals and likes to compare zoos. The zoo is not very big and has a very confusing layout, there are no maps available either as leaflets or on boards throughout the zoo. The conditions for the animals seemed good, with lots of enrichment but many of the cages were empty. The toilet we used was disgusting, we couldn't use a different one as most of them were out of order! The lady on the ticket desk was reading when we arrived and seemed unhappy at having to stop reading her book to serve us, I asked her a question and had to repeat it three times as she was just ignoring me - she didn't indicate she didn't understand she just wanted us to go away. If you like zoos and have spare time this will while away a couple of hours especially if you have children as there seemed to be a couple of decent play areas (we only had adult children with us).Visited October 2019Written October 18, 2019

Poor if you compare with other locations in western Europe. The place has no designated parking available. We went on a Saturday and we were directed by some men to park in the woods, we paid and there was no receipt. There is no place where you can buy snacks or drinks once you go inside. The animals are hiding if it is a hot day. Some of them are difficult to spot because of the poor way the cages were made. All in all, you can give it a try if the the weather is nice. The small children will enjoy it.

It's a good place to take the kids out for 2-3 hours max. It's smaller than other zoos in Europe, but the admitance ticket is very cheap.
We go there once every 2-3 months because the kids love the animals.
It has an exotic birds house and an acquarium/terrarium for reptiles, besides the outdoor enclosures.
Bring water and snacks as you don't have a place to buy that inside.

The negative reviews of this zoo do not do it justice! If you are looking for somewhere like London Zoo, or the London aquarium then (obviously) you will be disappointed...however if you are after a nice sized zoo with a good variety of wild cats, monkeys, birds and reptiles, to get you out of the city centre for a few hours, then this place is definitely worth a visit.
It is pretty easy to get to on the 301 bus from central Bucharest (Romania square) and is situated on a side road that has a few café's, there are none inside the zoo. There are however, lots of water fountains, benches, shade and toilets.
The zoo took us approximately 1h 45m to wander round (and in 38° heat that was plenty!) On a cooler day there are hammocks that would have been lovely to relax in and read/ enjoy the surroundings.
The animals are in decent enclosures and all look well looked after, including the small aquarium section with a variety of fish and reptiles.
The entry fee is 13lei for adults and 6.5 lei for seniors/students and children so less than £4 for myself and my 65yr old Dad to visit!! You can't really argue with that!
