About
Let me show you Bucharest off the beaten path! Embark on a private tour - in English, German or French - and discover beautiful churches hidden behind ugly communist blocks, small museums and private collections of paintings and a bewildering mix of Neo-Romanian, Modernist and late nineteenth century French style buildings. Visit the last caravanserai in this part of Europe and enjoy a glass of mint lemonade in the vibrant Old Town Center.

I enjoyed the tour very much. I have been living in Bucharest almost all my life and still hadn't seen the houses/places that Laura showed us. Working with Laura to organize the tour was a very pleasant experience. She is very professional and serious, but at the same time flexible and client-oriented. She organized a tour that would suit the needs of our group. She is very well informed and does a lot of accurate research in advance.

What was originally a group tour turned into a private tour with just us and Laura; rain scared the others off. Happily, the rain stopped just as the tour began. She regaled us with interesting stories while showing us some local sights and took us to three different restaurants for some fine food and drink. We had a most excellent time.

On 11 September 2020 we did a great tour with Laura, who is a very knowledgeable and friendly guide. We really enjoyed the city walk and Laura's company. We are not born in Romania, but have lived in Bucharest for four years, and yet Laura was able to show us things we had never seen. Laura speaks an excellent English, and she knows a lot about Romania, its history and its contemporary development. Romania is a lovely country with a friendly population, which is a prime reason for us to live here. Laura is a great ambassador for what we like about our new home country.

I had a tailored tour of Romanian Orthodox churches and monasteries in central Bucharest. Also great recommendations for authentic Romanian food and ongoing support — like reminding where a favorite shop was located! Highly recommend Laura for whatever your needs are. She knows Bucharest, the history, and the culture. And she is passionate about the areas of interest in the city. Speaks fluent English and German. I had a great experience.

We thoroughly enjoyed our full day, private walking tour in Bucharest with our guide Laura. We did a combo best of Bucharest cultural tour and food tour and it was amazing. We learned so much about the history of Bucharest and how it came to be what is is today. Though is was quite cold outside, we took several breaks and would pop in and out of places to warm up. Laura was very knowledgeable and having a local Romanian guide made the tour even better! Thank you for a wonderful day! Gabe and Lara

We had a great time on the tour with Emma. She has perfect English, knew the best spots to see and was super nice with our toddler and baby tagging along and needing the usual breaks. We learned a lot about Bucharest in a fun and interactive way. We would definitely recommend Emma and the Bucharest Step by Step for your tour, especially if you are a young and adventurous family like us.

I had a spare afternoon in Bucharest and was lucky enough to find Laura’s details online. I reached out to her and she kindly agreed to give me a two hour walking tour at very short notice.

The tour was fascinating, and showed me places I’d never have seen without her knowledgeable local guiding. I also learned a lot about the people and history of Bucharest.

Next time I’m in town I hope to do the longer street food and culture tour.

Thoroughly recommended.

When I got to Bucharest I was knocked out by the architecture of the old(18th & 19th cent.) buildings there. I wanted to see more and learn more. (I was actually in search of my family history there because my mom came form Bucharest before WWII).
I asked a friend who had lived in Bucharest for a year or two for a guide and he recommended that I contact Laura.
Have you ever looked in the pocket of a pair of your pants and found $500 that you have no recollection of where it came from? Thats what it felt like to walk around Bucharest with Laura. She was like winning the lottery in every way. Superb and educated guide, wonderful sense of humor, charming, social, knew her history of the place, knew who the architects were that built the houses, took us to houses that were incredible and off the beaten path. Took us inside a deteriorating mansion all the way to the "hunchback of Notre Dame" attic. The detail & ornamentation on these building compares with Paris and even better at times because there are so many styles that overlap.
It was so good that my friend and I did it again 2 days later. You wont find a better guide. I can't wait to get back for more.

Bucharest is an outstanding world class travel destination: amazing food, wonderful people and eye popping architecture. And the best way to experience all those at the highest poissible level is do in the company of Laura Genescu of Bucharest Step By Step. My friends and I took her architecture tour and left feeling giddy and uplifted astounded by her flexible and amusing narrative and scintillating gimlet eyed observational skills and encyclopedic knowledge of all periods of Bucharest's diverse architectural periods. Smart, funny, endlessly informative and one of the world's great tour guides, you must be careful as Laura's infectious, charming and insightful personna may make you want to take out Romanian citizenship in order to hang out with her even more! Bucharest is incomplete without a tour led by this indefatigable and brilliant cultural icon. We'll be back and we'll hire her again. And again.
