Expert walking tour: Romania beyond the headlines

Romania’s emergence as a frontier of the West, as it is today, makes it part of the western history. That is why a visitor walking through Bucharest centre will give you the chance to discover a cultural, political and historical puzzle originating in the influence of the Ottoman empire, followed by the successive advances and retreats of Eastern and Western allegiances and finally ending in half century of communism.

You will be surprised by the stories of the Romanian kings, dictators and aristocratic families originating in the darkness of history.

This tour is an incredible way to get under the skin of a country, with less emphasis on ordinary tourism, you’ll go off the beaten track and have a former journalist or academic accompanying you out along the way. You don’t need to be an expert in politics or foreign affairs to join. Everyone has an enquiring mind. It really is more like experiencing a kind of documentary than going on a typical group tour.

We had a great half day tour of the city of Bucharest with Oana. She is passionate about biking and has a deep love for her country. She is knowledgeable and shares from her heart, her life experiences in Romania. We had two couples on her tour. She kept us on bike lanes safe from traffic. Don’t miss out on a chance to tour with Oana and her colleagues

Oana and Ionut of Carpet Bike led 16 cyclists on a wonderful 75kms round trip from Copsa Mare. They travelled up to Transylvania just for the day and arranged a spectacular cycle ride with a a group (aged from mid 50's to late 60's) with varying degrees of experience on bikes, including three on electric bikes. We stopped for lunch in the beautiful village of Alma Vii. All bikes were in great condition and the planning of the day and route was exceptional. A great way to see the beautiful countryside.

Great experience. I contacted Carpat Bike Tours for a very specific request: one cycling tour outside Bucharest, less than 2 hours away by car, route of around 100 km with 1500 meters of total climb, quiiet roads with little traffic.... and they really delivered what I was expecting from them. I was accompanied on the bike by Ionut, very nice guy and great company on the road, and felt very comfortable all day through. I strongly recommend these guys, they are awesome!

Excellent day out, a mixed group of us (couples, families) very well run and supported by Oana & Ionuts, conditions were a bit muddy after rain, but it made the 23km achievement over fields, through villages, up & down hills all the more satisfying. And then to hose down the bikes and relax with winery tour, some great food, prize giving and wine tasting at Lacerta vineyard - fantastic! Thanks, thoroughly recommend.
