Bucharest Chronicles with Lunch Included

Local Hosts turns tourists into locals and locals into tourists.

We know that during a tour it's best to stop for refreshments and quick bites! Thus, we've included lunch to all our tours. Join us for a different experience in small groups and off the beaten path views.

For a back to basics tour, we give you an overview of our recent past and our older much more glorious history. Starting from the University Square - probably the most popular meeting point in the city, we then move along Calea Victoriei where aristocrats, merchants, communist officials and then new capitalists shouldered each other, in their respective eras, to get a place on the city’s oldest route. We then hop in the Old Town, through a secret passage, to see tiny and gorgeous medieval churches as well as the latest boho-bougie architectural statements. You’ll also get a glimpse into the many controversies behind the House of the People. We’ll end the tour at a grand traditional inn with beer and local cuisine.

We all want to hold in the everlasting gaze. A tour for the curious, the bold and the spirited. Departing the Old Town by tube to visit the oldest and most beautiful cemetery in town. It’s basically an open air museum, comparable to Père Lachaise. Enchanted in the rapture of its mysterious stories, we’ll take a turn through a lively park little-known to tourists but cherished by locals. Then we drop inside the oldest train station in Romania, and then we check out the former KGB headquarters close by. We’ll take a break at an old factory turned into a cultural hub, a perfect spot for quirky souvenirs and a sound meal. And lastly, we’ll show you a secret passage to an old Mahalla, the oriental term for ‘neighbourhood’.

We know that during a tour it's best to stop for refreshments and quick bites! Thus, we've included lunch to all our tours. Join us for a different experience in small groups and off the beaten path views.

This is an unique way to explore a seemingly forgotten story that has pushed the boundaries of endurance and has marked several generations of Romanians.

A trip down-on-memory lane, appealing to all of your senses, that will unveil the city and its people with both good and bad sides, while allowing you to judge the progress and the downfall of a society for yourselves.

To top everything up, we've included a drive through the Bronx of Bucharest where you'll witness the communist bedroom dormitories that defined (and still do) the last 50 years of Romanian social history. From rock bottom we'll head out to Primaverii Ave (Bel-Air of Bucharest) where you'll see how they really understood the slogan ”we are all equal”

Hey John, Thanks a lot for taking the time to drop your review! Hard times that we're going through right now with the corona story, but we really appreciate the vote of confidence. Let's hope that things will return back to normal soon and we can get another chance to explore through the quaint little streets of Bucharest, discovering even more hidden gems. It's been great meeting you and sharing the communism full story, and hope you've enjoyed exploring Fort 13 Jilava, the former military fort and communist prison. Safe travels ahead and my best reagds, Mircea Local Hosts

First of all, right of the bat it feels like going on a road-trip with your super knowledgeable friend. Mircea was super attentive and took us exactly to the things we wanted to see, and then some. His flexibility and ability to adjust the tour to the person on the go is just amazing! His knowledge of Bucharest and Romania in general is extraordinary. You can tell he's truly passionate about what he does. He had tips pretty much for anything, even things that aren't typically on anyone's vacation list (like where to find the best street art/ruins for photography). I can't think of anyone better to explore the city with. Can't wait to go on another adventure :)

I came to Bucharest last year and did not take a tour with Mircea ( a big mistake! ), this time I took 2 tours with Mircea in the last 2 days and i enjoyed them so much! Mircea gave me a different view of the City and I started to like it! Mircea's knowledge of the City and his passion for architecture of Bucharest is amazing, we learned so much and cannot stop admiring the beautiful houses in various different areas, it was a feast of the city culture between 1900 to 1950s! Enjoy this tour and it will make you to see a very different side of Bucharest.

Perhaps, we can try to explore Mahallopolis or even our special wine tour? :) Until next time, Mircea

The TVR television station is not normally open to the public, so do yourself a favor and put yourself in Mircea's capable hands for a fascinating tour. You will learn things about the Romanian revolution in December 1989, the history of televised broadcasting, and Mircea's personal stories about growing up in Bucharest. He is passionate about sharing interesting information as well as some tasty local cuisine and good conversation. Bring your camera, your curiosity and your walking shoes. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Took in December 2019 the 'anniversary' tour of the TVR station. Anniversary because 30 years have passed since the anti-communist revolution of 1989 in which the TVR building and station have played a very important role. Even though I am a local that loves his city and consider myself very knowledgeable about it, I was happy to find out new things from Mircea, who is a fountain of information and is very passionate about Bucharest - a fact which I admire, especially given that it is rare nowadays. I highly recommend the TVR tour because it is not a place which you can easily visit, as it is not regularly open to the public. And the tour is a mix of communist and revolution related history and entertainment history that we found out from a TVR employee - also a very nice guide.
