As per the previous reviews, it's not worth the money. Disinterested staff, very little English explanations on the internal exhibits and more importantly the hardware outside was off limits, being very forcefully told so by security/military staff. The building however is very impressiveboth externally and internally. Don't waste your time going there though...

A 10 min walk from Gare de Nord railway station the Museum the Museum is easy to find.
A very comprehensive set of displays takes the visitor from pre-Roman times right up to date on several floors. Lots of dioramas and displays of weapons etc etc. There is, however, very limited signage in English. (which is a shame as there are some fascinating displays which we would have liked to have had more information on...). They deal well with the second world war and the Romanian alliance with Germany on the Eastern front against the Russians.
Outside there is a very comprehensive collection of artillery - some Soviet Era Radar equipment (a personal favourite) cold war era missiles vehicles, and tanks. A really fantastic collection. For some reason the interesting cold war tanks have a hedge growing around them so you cant see all the tank - just the top half. Odd.
There is a smaller building with aviation related items in it which is interesting, and an old Mig parked up to the side.
The only downside is the incredibly surly staff at reception, and the fact that a ticket for a camera (20 lei) is twice the price of an adult admission. If you can look beyond the lack of English and the miserable staff it's a great museum.

Tickets are 10 lei pp with option of seeing extra exhibit of uniforms/weapons for another 10 lei pp. Taking pictures costs 50 lei per camera - they give you a photo permit to carry around your neck.
Place is huge - exhibits follow history from pre-historic times to the NATO membership. In the back you have multiple examples of military equipment - tanks, artillery pieces and aircraft.
Recommend planning for at least 3 hours so you are not rushing - place closes at 5 PM.

While this is definitely a military museum, there is a lot on the history of Romania from the period of 3000 BC right up to today. It shows how the country was influenced by the Romans, the Turks and how it was split apart and combined several times over the centuries.
The museum is very well laid out with three floors that you follow starting in the basement at the earliest times up to the top floor for the latest events. There are several displays set up with costumes and figures in order to give you a real look at events. Incredible amount of detail everywhere but little English unfortunately. I was lucky enough to visit with a local who was also a history buff.
It was the fun to go into the back of the museum yard as there is dozens of tanks, artillary pieces and vehicles. There was even three or four missle launchers complete with missles!
There is another large building at the back of the lot which has several airplanes and helicopters as well as the real highlight of the day, a Romanian Cosmonaut space suit and memorabilia and even a CCCP space capsule. A must see for sure especially when one is from North America and then typically only exposed to the US space program memorabilia. Overall, very worthy of a visit.

Just so you know don’t try to go on a Monday (or a Tuesday) as it isn’t open despite what it says on Trip Advisor!

Lots of exhibits from very early in history up to the present day, just a shame only about half or less had been translated into English. The plaques on the big military kit outside could also have been a bit clearer, but still interesting to see. the aeronautical hanger was the most interesting with a soyuz capsule from when a Romanian astronaut went into space, and also a couple of very early flying machines. Cost 20 Lei to get in (about £4 each) which wasn't bad.

I was in military history heaven when I went and visit this museum. It was a few years ago. It has everything as military accessories are concern from bullets to Rockets to planes to astronaut capsules!
IT shows you the history of Romania from Neolithic era until recent years. Highly recommend. You need to pay in order to take photos and this is a customary habit in all the museums I visited in Bucharest.

It's immense, it took us 5 hours to see it all!
The first building holds the main exhibition: 5 floors of diverse military artefacts. A true dive into millenarian history!
Next goes the fire arms exhibition, a delight for people passionate in guns. It just opened a few months ago and has a large collection from different centuries and countries.
The third building holds the air force ammunition: planes, engines, replacement parts, arms, rockets. The last department (hangar) is dedicated to ground means of locomotion, including royal carriages, sleighs and war vehicles.
The open space in between the buildings holds a large collection of tanks, rockets, radars and various pieces of artillery...
The museum is well maintained, the staff is friendly and helpful.
It's definitely worth visiting, especially for those interested in Military Forces and History!

We found this museum a little bit hard to locate, but only about a 10 minute walk from the main station..
Very good value for money, even though the aviation part was closed, ( this was a dissapointment for me.. As i was looking forward to seeing the space capsule)
The staff are on the surly side, but the exhibition more than makes up for this..
And you will have the museum to yourself, an underrated place to visit..

How to get there taxi or public transport ?
Written August 27, 2018
In short, taxi is your best bet. I made my way there on public transport, but it was a 10min walk from where we got off the tram. Be wary of getting ripped off by taxi drivers in Romania though.
Also worth noting that entrance fee is cash only! The nearest ATM is a good 5-10min walk away. (As I found out the hard way)
