About
The best way to understand the Romanian (sub)culture and traditions. Romanian KITSCH is authentic as we are creative, ridiculous and proud in the same time. Seven KITSCH areas presented (basically seven stories) – Kitsch from the Communism period, Dracula Kitsch, Gypsy Kitsch & more. Search for the flag with Ceausescu and when you are standing next to it, look for the rainbow themed museum doors, which are somewhat hidden fom view behind a couple of white umbrellas that belong to the restaurant next door. Very funny experience but real and educational in the same time. It's an interactive experience. You can take pictures inside and you can interact with the exponats.(touch them) Average visiting time: 33 minutes. Between 16th of July and 30 September 2021, the museum is located in the city center of Cluj Napoca - TIFF House, so it’s easy to get inside while you exploring the rest of the city.

The entrance is 30Ron/6,4 Eur and includes a coffee at a bar nearby. It is for sure something new for a foreign tourist, basic things from communism , but put together in a meaningless way. A plus for the “Mario” game( functional)- this is for the ‘85 generation☺️

The place is everything else but not a museum. It looked rather a scrapyard for me. Some old objects and photos gathered in a few rooms. In 20 minutes you can see it all, assuming there is something that deserve to be seen. Besides, the tickets are highly too expensive.

Genuinely interesting and endearingly weird museum which gives great insight into Romanian culture. The documentary upstairs on the tv opposite the sofa is harrowing but absolutely worth a watch. Not sure of the name of the girl on the reception but she’s a legend (and gave me a free fridge magnet - hope she doesn’t get in trouble lol). Ps - will u date me?

We had a lot of fun, this museum being one with many surprises. We also loved the fact that it was interactive. Still, it was an educational experience, learning a lot about the Romanian sub-culture. All the information was displayed in an attractive manner, being also easy to keep up with the facts and to understand them.

This museum was awful! Do not recommend it at all. It was filled with strange things that really didn't make any sense at all. Truly a waste of time and money.

Initially I was disappointed to find the museum didn’t open until 12 noon but once in I found the ‘museum’ refreshingly different even if it did remind me of my visit to Great Yarmouth Waxworks Museum as a teenager because of similar elements of awfulness. On the staircase my eyes were drawn to the large garden gnome. Once past the ticket desk I was invited to touch something golden to bring me good fortune - what golden feature will you opt for? Then I was able to have my photo taken with Dracula - how Romanian! The museum is a strange mix. I learnt about aspects of communism, religion and Romany life. One cannot pretend for a minute that this museum is ‘in the best possible taste’ because it isn’t. It lacks the finesse of the V & A or Smithsonian but heigh-ho this is Bucharest and it’s good to see that Romanians can take the mickey out of themselves. Be sure to visit the toilets before you leave ; the writing’s on the wall. The big plus for this museum was its friendly staff. Also it’s easy to get to being situated in the Old Town which itself has some rather seedy looking joints amongst the much nicer restaurants and bars.

A huge waste of time.Nothing interesting to see, just a lot of old things collected in a couple of rooms. It looks like grandma's depot. Not a museum, at least in my opinion. There are a lot of more interesting museums in Bucharest, by far.

A lady at the hostel I was staying at recommended the Kitsch museum and I am so glad that I went. I thoroughly enjoyed the exhibits.

The museum was not only quirky, but educational and provided a light-hearted introduction to Romanian culture and life.

It's very well located in the old town too. A must recommend for anyone travelling to Bucharest!

Do yourself a favour and stay away from this absolute crap. To call it a 'museum' is a sham. It is 30 Lei per person and a total waste of money and time.

Hello Sir, We are sorry for your bad experience! We are a private museum in the heart of Bucharest( Old Town) and we are auto financing from the ticket fee who is below 6 euros. Our concept presents a little story about Romanians lifestyle, and at the museum entrance, on the wall, an info abou what you will find inside is written, so basically you know what you pay before you enter. Just like the art, kitsch is subjective. Have a nice day!
