If you are looking to spend some time learning about the real Transylvania, not time spent in gift shops or eating lunches in hotels, then we can highly recommend this tour. Let’s start with the most important piece of any tour, the guide. Mihai had great communication with us even prior to meeting him in person. His sense of humor and his responsible nature was apparent from the first inquiry until he left us in Bucharest upon the end of the tour. Mihai is knowledgeable in Romania’s history, from medieval times, through the Communist era, all the way through their addition to the EU. He is open-minded and explains everything in as much detail as one wants. He has a quick sense of humor that encourages laughter, so learning from him is not a dry bore. He was open to answering questions about life in Romania as well. I might add that he was always on time, in a clean and well maintained car. Second most important piece, tour content. It is apparent that Mihai has done this a time or two in the past as he has selected the best towns to visit for the overnights. We loved that he allowed us to select which hotel best suited us from a small list of options. That helped us choose the best hotels for our tastes. We also appreciated that we were left on our own in the evenings to explore these small towns on our own. Perhaps the highlight of our days with Mihai was the possibility to eat in local homes, to enjoy meals cooked by local women and to chat with artisans without feeling the need to buy anything. We will never forget the lovely woman, who spoke no English, but shared through hand signals how she prepared the Polenta with Cheese! Then there was the blacksmith and his adorable son who showed us how horseshoes are made. These are the experiences that make a tour. These are the memories that last. Last piece, value. We believe that we paid a fair price for this tour. To have an expert with us, talking about Romania and how each country‘s history has made the world what it is today was priceless. I guess the bottom line is this: If you are looking to see the “real” Romania with a talented and knowledgeable guide, do not hesitate to book this tour. You will be glad you did!

Romania is a wonderful country with a wide variety of interesting areas, beautiful mediaeval towns, splendid nature, unspoilt countryside and much more. We contacted Mihai from Itravelinromania.com . He did a great job by tailoring one of his tours to our needs and interests. It was interesting to talk with him about any subject, from history, culture, politics to daily life in Romania. We really enjoyed his company and guiding skills. We highly recommend his services as a guide or driver/guide as we did, in all areas of Romania.

Our group of 4 had a private 3-day tour of Transylvania followed by a morning in Bucharest. We originally booked our tour in 2020, but it was canceled because of COVID. Throughout that time Mihai was so easy to work with that we automatically wanted to book his company for this trip. Because we were coming at a busy time, Mihai was already booked, so he scheduled us with his colleague, Ionut. We could not have asked for a better guide. From the moment he met us at the airport, Ionut was congenial, professional, and sensitive to our needs. He was very easy to talk to, always ready with an informative answer to our many questions about his country and its people. His knowledge of Romanian history was very impressive. His appreciation of and respect for all the cultures represented in his country were evident. Language was never an issue; his English came easily. He was a great driver too. Not having to drive ourselves meant that all 4 of us could enjoy the spectacular views along the way. After we left Bucharest, he served as our driver as we traveled on to Veliko Tărnovo and then to Sofia. By the time we reached Sofia, he was almost like family. We hated to see him go. I would strongly recommend I Travel in Romania as a company and Ionut as a guide. We loved the trip.

We just finished an awesome multi-day Transylvania trip with Stefan. We couldn’t have had a better guide. Besides being a walking dictionary, he was also very personable, professional, and most importantly, very accommodating. He was very helpful especially with my father-in-law who is in a wheelchair. On top of that, the MB van that we used was modern, clean, and in great shape. The locations that he brought us to and the sceneries were spectacular. The hotels that we stayed in were beautiful and right in the middle of town. We highly recommend him and this company and will definitely use them again for our other trips. Thank you for the wonderful memories!
