Beautiful, clean station devoid of passengers and trains. From the information board it appears there is only one train departing and one train arriving each day with the only destination being Bucharest, Romania. The board also shows trains to and from Moscow and St. Petersburg but with the war in Ukraine it doesn’t look like they are running. The station is maintained in pristine condition on both floors, but the coffee shop is not open.

Chișinău Railway Station is a very distinctive building close to Constantin Negruzzi Square and the Atrium Shopping Centre. Due to Covid-19 restrictions there were no international trains and only domestic suburban trains were operating. Ideally I would have travelled by train from Iasi in Romania to Chișinău and onto Tiraspol, Transnistria. Instead I travelled by Rutiera which was a lot of fun if a bit sweaty in upper 30s temperatures but I would have rather travelled by train to be honest. The station was devoid of trains and passengers when I visited so it felt very forlorn as a result, it is away from the centre of town but is worth a visit.

The station itself is rather bone idle, with interesting long distance services to Bucharest, St. PETERSBURG and Moscow. It's immaculately clean, with a hoard of cleaners constantly mopping the polished stone floor. Friendly and helpful English speaking ticket booking was appreciated. The cafe seems to be a dive. Head out to the platform, turn left and about 30m down there is a small kiosk behind the railings which serves nice espresso, basic snacks and bottle drinks and so on for your long journey.

Outside there is an impromptu flea market on the street. Reviews say it's great for Soviet era memorabilia, but it's mostly crap and clothes. I saw a few tiny Soviet souvenirs and a few Lenin vinyl LPs, that's all. The statue to the deportations by Soviets of 70,000 Moldovans To Gulag is a quick snap. Watch out if you walk to/from the city centre, there are troublesome Street kids around the Yuri Gargarin Street area, near the two monuments. Avoid if you are easy prey / alone / at night

Did this journey in Jan 2019. There's a special counter which says Bucharest on it. The train leaves once a day 16.56 - 6am the next day. I bought my ticket on the same morning as I was leaving. You take the number 5 bus from the main street in Chisinau around 4-5 stops to the station or a 30 min walk. They only accept cash and there's an ATM and coffee machine. There's a nice path to cross the tracks onto each platform. The journey is comfortable and each carriage has beds; cost 620 leu.

I took the train from Bucarest to Chisinau and loved the experience, because I really love trains. The train station is pretty old school. Also comprised of details that make you appreciate the conflict within the country between pro-Russia and pro-EU factions. The replaced Soviet Union symbol is evidence of this. Would highly recommend getting a guide to take you through the city and places like the train station, where we arrived. Would also recommend the train from Bucarest, which cost me the equivalent of $25 AUD, or what I've worked out is $23 USD, for a 15-hour train ride with a bunk bed.

Beautifully designed and maintained railway station from the Stalinist Soviet era of 1948. It can look shut but just open the door! Inside there's a cafe, ticket booth and tropical fish tanks. Go onto the platforms to get an idea of the amazing scale of the station considering there's so few trains.

It´s quite calm there for a capital train station.
Few trains arrive and depart in a day but there are routes to Moscow, Odessa and Bucharest. Beautiful façade and architecture.

I arrived in Chisnau by train, the entire station is modern, clean and the building is newly restored. Lots of marble and a feeling of grandiour. Outide there is a bus station and a market with hundreds of stalls selling all kinds of old communist tat and old clothes (no food). Also the monument to Stalinist oppression is right outside. It seemed to be quite a distance from the actual city centre but there are frequent busses to and from the station.

Nice architechture, slow traffic. There is also an old steam engine to see. In front of the station is busy fleamarket.

It is beautiful building in the Romanesque style. If a ticket, you can use the luggage room, a waiting room or hostel.
