Before we left the US, my wife and I discussed what COULD go bad after we submitted our deposit for a two-week photo tour with a Croatian guide we hadn't yet met. He could not show up at all and just run off with our money. He could be a difficult person to travel with. He could do any of a hundred things to make us regret employing him, any of which would have been highly disappointing, since we had looked forward to this trip for many months. Igor proved to be an extremely tolerable travel partner, and excellent and knowledgeable guide, an experienced and talented photographer, and an overall really nice guy! We left Croatia thrilled with our experience and more than a little appreciative that our risk had paid off.
Igor had arranged the accommodations, all of them in the older parts of the various cities we called home for one or more nights and his selections fit nicely with the style we had communicated as our preference. He took us to places we never would have selected travelling on our own, and shared his knowledge of those as well as the handful of places we DID know were a priority to visit, including Plitvice National Park and Krka National Park. We came away with more than a few photographs that made the trip both enjoyable and memorable.
Since the 15 day tour included, among others, Dubrovnik, Split, Zagreb, Rovinj, Bled (Slovenia), and many small villages, this was a broader tour than you might typically book, but it is testament to Igor's flexibility. He started the tour with the statement that our agree-upon itinerary was merely a guideline, and that proved to be a real advantage as weather and other considerations prompted ad hoc modifications.
Check out croatiaphototour.com for examples of Igor's work, and if his style appeals to you, you are not likely to regret booking his as your guide to some of the most scenic locations in Europe.
