Honestly I don't understand why this place is so special. It is a passage of shops with an octagonal top. It is good and something special but I think a bit overrated.

An urban passageway that connects two streets through the building of the former First Croatian Savings Bank. It was designed by architect Josip Vancaš and built as part of the savings bank building between 1898 and 1900. The structure consists of two passageways connecting an octagonal atrium to the city streets.
It was once the ultimate in iron-and-glass shopping elegance a century ago, and still features a few of the city’s top shops including Croata, the tie store that loves to explain how Croatians invented the necktie. Croatian soldiers who fought with the French in the Thirty Years’ War had a distinct way of tying their Scarves. The French found it stylish, adopted it, and called it a la Croate – or eventually, cravat.

A beautiful arcade to walk in especially during Christmas time. You can browse around the shops and find interesting Croatian souvenirs.

As a result unable to appreciate interior architecture of this passageway, as it is covered in scaffold. However, all the shops are still open and the passage is unimpeded, connecting, Petar Preradovic Square (flower square) with Ilica Street. Gets a 4* for the short cut alone.

From Ilica you will come to Cvjetni square.
Some shops in Oktogon are really expensive but in Croata you will find an original croatian souvenirs - kravata (tie).

Classic arcade, still open to the public but currently undergoing some renovations. A crown jewel in Zagreb's architectural landscape if fully restored to its former glory.

Positioned almost at the Ban Jelacic Main Square, offering covered connection to another nice square. This is actually small shopping area with very nice offer of gifts, mementos and other fancy staffs.

For sheer class in a shopping area, this is hard to beat. So close to the main square, it is easy to miss it - but don't. The centre has a wonderful stained glass roof, while the shops are very expensive but good for window shopping.

This passageway connects the Square of Petar Preradović with the main street, Ilica. It was built as a part of the building that was originally a bank in 1900. The passage has two passageways and the central octagonal atrium (hence the name). It is a very nice construction with a spirit of the old days.

Elegant pre-World War I arcade, lined with some upmarket shops. Do not expect a modern shopping mall, but place it one hundred years ago.
