Very interesting museum about the important history of Croatia. Currently the exhibition is about the year 1945, so the end of WW2, fascism, communism. You can spend one good hour there, but everything is written in Croatian so you need a guide. Martina guided me and it was great!

The museum of Croatian history holdings consist of around 300,000 objects divided into 17 collections. The museum does not have a permanent display. Instead, it only holds temporary exhibitions due to lack of space. Now they had a temporary exhibition about the year 1945, which was in many of its political and social aspects a watershed in Croatian history.

There is absolutely nothing in it. All they had was a series of photographs from the Balkan wars in the 1990s but there was no information about what happened in the war and nothing on anything else. Completely and utterly dreadful

The museum is small and doesn't seem to have a permanent exhibition yet. We visited while the "Faces of War" exhibition was on. It really shows you the impact of the war in the 90s, both on the country and the individuals. It is better to look up some information first or watch the video in the main hall (it... More

The museum is all about some pictures from the independence war! Is this the only history of Croatia or Zagreb? Nothing from ancient times or medieval times! I believe it should be called the Independence War Museum. I wouldn't recommend to spend time or put this on plan. If it comes by coincidence you find this museum open on your... More

The museum was small and focused art displaying images from the war. The best part of this museum was the staff. They made themselves readily available, spoke great English, and can tell you everything about Croatia's history, culture and people. We spent about 45 mins talking to Ivan, who was very friendly and was a wealth of historical knowledge. He... More

I was looking forward to learning about Croatian history, at least the Zagreb version, unfortunately it was closed (or moved), instead I saw a very extensive hand held small arm collection (few hundred) dating back to the 14th century. The exhibit should be called the history of small arms since there were water color/drawing illustrations of the corresponding uniforms of... More

The current small exhibition can be seen in about 30 minutes (WWI) but if you enjoy architecture you'll get a bonus look into part of a formerly grand home. The museum has a large collection but unfortunately most of it is in storage now as it looks for a permanent home/venue.

Can be reached by the staircase from the lower city but its 120 painful steps. Reasonable admission but a worth the visit. Does help a visitor to really understand the history of Croatia.
