I spent the beginning of our time with Jeronim of Kamauf Tours trying as hard as I could not to butcher his name. I called him every name other than Jerico (which is the easy version he offers) and a few on accident that I’m sure he didn’t appreciate, but by the end of our week long time together and several hundred kilometers travelled I felt as if we had been friends for years! Croatia is an outstandingly beautiful, safe, and friendly country and Jeronim is a perfect representative of the Croatian spirit. Jeronim treated us like family and even went above and beyond when it came to including our children and making them feel special with small (but big to us) things like giving them their own artful Croatian journal to keep a log of our travels. Jeronim even drew prior in their journals a treasure map of the Zadar waterfront where the treasure turned out to be a nice cold cone of gelato. We started out in Zagreb where one of Jeronim’s associates picked us up from the airport and drove us to our hotel. The next morning Jeronim met us at our hotel and we did a day long walking tour of Zagreb. Jeronim prepared a nice picnic style lunch which he purveyed from the numerous offerings the local outdoor market supplied. We enjoyed people watching, good food, and a nice moment to familiarize with each other. My favorite spot was the City Club Grill cevapi restaurant, truly the best cevapi out of all the places we tried throughout Croatia. The next day we headed up to Motovun where we had fun truffle hunting with our guide and his dogs from Karlic Tartufi which is a family run truffle farm and another five star review in itself. We spent the night high up the hill overlooking the entire region where the next day we headed to Fakin winery and had some really Fakin good wine. Then off to the 11th century town of Hum, population 60 where we had an excellent lunch before heading out to the Plitvice lake area where we had a B&B booked at Tesla’s Gastro House (five stars, great food, wonderful accommodations) and we all enjoyed a wonderful dinner together in the wilderness. We spent the next few days kayaking on the Mreznica river, caving at Barac cave, and walking beautiful lake Plitvice. Our last portion with Jeronim was a long drive down to Trogir with a special stop in Zadar to listen to the sea organ and hunt for gelato treasure! Jeronim dropped us off safely at Marina Baotic where we had an apartment for the night before heading off for a weeklong catamaran sailing trip. I can’t say enough about how wonderful and memorable Jeronim made our trip, without him we would have been blinded by our own preconceived notions on what Croatia and its people are all about, I would have been stressed and tired on the long drives and our vacation would not have been as special in the least. Thank you Jeronim and Kamauf Tours! I highly recommend contacting Kamauf tours when planning a trip to Croatia.
