Wow, so what can I say? I was in Zagreb in the midst of this COVID craziness on some business for a quick minute. I only had 1 full day to spend in Zagreb and I'd contacted Mladen a couple weeks ahead wondering if he'd make time to give me a tour so I could make the most of my 1 day. Mladen was exceedingly wonderful to work with and I really, truly appreciate it as we had several last-minute difficulties which he was able to accommodate with graciousness. For that I really have to say THANK YOU. We stayed in the city of Zagreb for a walking tour. Although I booked the wine tour, actually, I was also hoping for a bit of a history tour as that is a passion of mine and Mladen actually was so well prepared. The different sections of Zagreb are at once both modern and old, bringing up a very special feeling I always gets when I am lucky enough to visit the old cities of Europe, and Mladen did a great job elaborating on many fine points and details that I would have completely missed if I had just wandered randomly around (and gotten lost) for the precious few hours I had. Thank you so very much for the tour. I hope that if I am ever back in Croatia, Mladen can craft another dog-friendly tour to go on. 5*s and again thank you!

Thank you for kind words! I agree, it was challenging to organize a Zagreb City Walk &Wine Tour, while COVID is still around. Though, Zagreb is known for ‘outdoor living’, locals spend lots of time on streets and squares socializing (coffee time, cake time, wine and snacks…), so we just joined the bunch outside on the terrace (and your dog didn’t mind) :-) Hopefully you’ll return to Croatia and explore its magnificent coastline and old towns and cities packed with history and great food/wine (Zadar, Šibenik, Split, Dubrovnik and dozens of ‘sleepy’ islands). As I do Private Tours only, you’ll be safe from mixing with other people. Safety first! Take care, Mladen 'Urban Sherpa' guide-driver

HIghly recommended. if like us, do not want to drive, read guidebook/cell phone all time and pushed for time to see these amazing places. This tour is perfect for us. 2 middle age and 1 grand ma. Mladen is fantastic guide , knowledgable, laid back personality, made us feel comfortable entire trip. Comment from 80 yo Grandma - punctual /on time 100%, good driver/ never pick up the phone while he is driving entire 4 days, Never take us to souvenier shops, glass shops (like in Thailand or Italy) Here is my trip, 2 days zagreb, 2 days Split, 2 days Dubrovnik "tailor made", 1st day AM: Zagrab walking Tour, very relaxing and fun, esp. the market. I walked around the city the night before but the perspective is entirely different when walking with Mladen 1st day PM: Samobor Town Tour. The most memorable tour after all is Samobor, Nice cute restaurant for lunch, lots of local family. Went to the newly discovered cave, it is so exciting compared to "Akiyoshidai" the longest cave in Japan, which is full of tourist. This new cave, it is personal cave, so they locked the door when you go in... so exciting. so far after all, Samobor is my favourite 2nd day: Had the farmer breakfast in some little town, instead of having breakfast at hotel, very nice, relaxing and eat a lot --> Plitvice Lakes, lots of tourist, but so far the must go for Croatia, I get the personal guide as well, Nice walk, but not so memorable after all --> then back to the car go to SPLIT 3rd day AM: 1.5 hr Free of charge Split walking tour by Mladen... hmmm, again , very informative and good walk --> lunch and shopping and take a nap at hotel in old town --> Meet with Mladen at 4 PM go to Trogir town, again, very relaxing and nice, had a coffee. UNESCO world heritage, the must to see 4th day Drive from Split to Dubrovnik, Meet at 9 AM, stop at STON Town, walk in the old town, say hello to cats, eat oyster (at Mini Ston) , buy salt. Enjoy the scenic drive to Dubrovnik --> arrived Dubrovnik safely. I am writing the review 1 month after my trip, even so, The places that Mladen took us is strongly embedded in my brain. PS: just tell him the food preferences etc. he will arrange. Our group do not drink wine but seems like he knows a lot about wine.

Jun, thank you for effort and taking time to write such a personal and detailed review. It was easy to set such multi-day tour, when you provide detailed plan of your trip and like-dislike preferences. Zagreb-Plitvice-Split-Dubrovnik is the most requested route of exploring Croatia, though, it should be planned carefully, as each location has its 'little secrets', which should be considered. For example, people often sleep over at Plitvice lakes, after visiting the park, therefore losing 1 day of vacation. I always recommend people to do Zagreb-Plitvice-Split in one day, and use the extra day for exploring Split surroundings (e.g. Trogir, islands...). Staying 1 (or less) day in Split, then 3 or more days is Dubrovnik is also not advised. Split has far more to offer (landmarks, museums, beaches, restaurants, wine-bars, long sea-promenade...), and cruise ships can't make this place overrun by people, because city is spread enough to 'digest' all visitors. Dubrovnik Old Town doesn't have that privilege, so they must limit cruise ship numbers per day. This translates to 'when is the right time of day to walk Dubrovnik Walls?"... list of these secrets goes on and on. Warm regards, Mladen 'Urban Sherpa' guide

The good guides in Zagreb seem to know one another and they speak highly of their colleagues. We were looking forward to our adventure with Mladen, because our guide from the day before knew him and spoke of him highly. He picked us up promptly at our hotel in Zagreb, and we set out for a day-long journey to Plitvice Lakes, finishing in Split that evening. The itinerary was great and it prevented us from having to rent a car. Because the drive was long, it gave us plenty of time to chat with Mladen about all things Croatian. He shared local history, experiences about his life growing up, how the country had changed over time and introduced us to some of the current political topics. By the time we left him that night, we had a much deeper understanding of the country and the people. He was also great with logistics. He told us exactly how to navigate the national park, communicated with our host in Split keeping her in the loop about our arrival, and made the transition to a fairly unique accommodation in Split seamless. Although I wouldn't exactly choose the word 'funky' to describe Mladen, he's a great guide!

This transfer was one of my family's highlights during our (2) week Croatian experience. Funky Zagreb Tours were excellent hosts; they filled us in on the local history along the way and exposed us to local customs, foods and wines during our farm-to-table lunch. Mladen secured tickets for Plitvice in advance so we did not have to wait in the long lines and he expertly guided us through the park to view the park's many beautiful natural wonders, while avoiding the crowds. Thanks to his advice, we wore the appropriate hiking footwear, which allowed to explore on-trail and off-trail sites. Our hosts at the farm-to-table lunch he arranged were warm, welcoming and engaging, and the local foods they prepared were excellent. All and all, this day long transfer to Split was highly enjoyable!

Hi Dave, I'm glad you took advise from your neighbors and hired my for this long, but very interesting Zagreb-Plitvice-Split day trip. They were here few years ago and liked it, so why changing winning combination :-) I always try to persuade people to have lunch at farm restaurant, after long walk, because owners are friendly and warm people, plus food and wine are great. Thanks for feedback, cheers, Mladen, guide-driver, Funky Zagreb tours

Mladen drove my husband and I from Zagreb to Slovenia and back for the day. He is a wonderful driver, we felt very safe with him at the wheel and he is an excellent tour guide. I would contact him again if we are ever in the area.

Hi there, Luckily we changed the time-table and visited Lake Bled first, as I expected huge crowds there (it was August, peak season). While we were leaving the place, cars just piled up around the lake, I can't imagine to wait 1 hour to move a car only 0.5 mile. As European destinations are becoming more and more overrun by large crowds, tour guides are now almost essential asset, if you want to enjoy your vacation, while you move around. Thank you, cheers, Mladen, guide-driver, Funky Zagreb tours
