About
Image of War is a museum dedicated to War Photography, the current exhibition "Up Close and Personal: War in Croatia" covers the Croatian War of Independence which lasted from 1991-1995 through works and stories of Croatian, Serb and world-renowned international professional photographers together with personal stories and photos people donated to the museum. Our motto is "War belongs in a museum" and our goal is to promote the importance of peace and raise awareness of the destructiveness which war brings to all affected sides. In an effort to actively help those directly affected by war, part of the revenue of all tickets is being donated to victims of war and refugees. * WARNING: The exhibition contains possibly disturbing and upsetting content. Visitor discretion is advised. TICKETS: Adults 50HRK, Students/Pensioners/Veterans 40HRK, Couples 80HRK, Groups of 10+ pay 30 HRK per person and children under 12 have free entrance. *Pet friendly Image of War Museum is temporarily closed.

Disappointed...
Jul 2020
Very disappointed! We booked this trip online for the first time in Croatia. We are two who love the history of WW2. On TripAdvisor, everything was open and accessable. When we arrived at the museum on the next day, I receiver a textmessage from the museum itself, saying the museum was closed temporarely. We understand the Corona Situation and the fact that there was an earthquake a few months ago, BUT, we paid in advance via TripAdvisor, so they did not communicate with the museum and did not update their page. I asked the museum for a refund, and unfortunately, they could not provide me that. So I texted TripAdvisor, and still have not received an answer. I am not going to argue for 17$, definately not, but it is just the fact that their is not even a good communication between them two and no service to the clients. Shame. We were looking forward to do this...

Extremely Moving Experience
May 2019
I was extremely impressed with both the content of this little museum and the quality of its presentations. Docents are friendly and quite knowledgable, but I did not spend a lot of time with them. It was quite enough to absorb the images on display and sit for the couple of short videos. While this exhibit at the time focused on the war in Croatia, my understanding is that the Museum has a broader intent to show the world images of war from everywhere so that, hopefully, alternatives to resolving conflict will emerge and relieve the immense suffering that attends war. I highly recommend a visit to this museum. An hour or two would be enough to spend in the three or four rooms that host the displays.

Astounding images
Dec 2019
These images bring to reality what the people endured during the war and how they came through it. For those who have not experienced something like this it is very difficult to comprehend the man can be so cruel to fellow mankind.
The absolute bravery of the cameramen to capture these war events first hand on film without being armed is mind boggling.
Well presented display with a very helpful and knowledgeable lady at the counter. Worth a visit

Part of a walking tour with a great guide Kristina. Very moving place with excellent photographs. Give clear insight into the war and its impacts.
If you like history or photography a good place to visit.

I didn't expect this to happen...
Unfortunately I have to share bad experience with one of the employees. Upon our arrival I asked staff member do they accept ICOM card (International Comitte of Museums), which is well known among museum workers around the world. He wasn't sure so he asked a blonde lady nearby, and she replied to me No, why should we? I try to explain to her, but she interrupted me.. And said again No! Her attitude was quite patronizing and aggressive. As a museum worker she should have know what is ICOM because most of the museums are part of this network. For the situation to be more embarrassing I work at the musem that the director visited prior to the opening of this museum, so he can see how our museum operates with similar topic. In the end I didn't enter, because I felt humiliated by her behavior.
All the best with your work in the future and I hope you can improve the knowledge of your staff.

Dear NorthStar700317, we deeply regret and apologize for the unprofessional conduct of our employee. We are very well aware of what ICOM is and what it represents so this event puzzles us even more. However, we would like to look deeper into the matter and would be grateful if you sent us the exact date and time of your visit. We assure you that ICOM's membership can be used and has been used on many previous occasions for free access to the Museum.

Moving and importent to see
Nov 2019
All visitors to Croatia should see these images from the war -- it's hard to believe it happened in such recent history and that the places we as tourists visit were all affected by the bombing. It's hard not to come away feeling quite desperate about humanity. How is it we continue to do this to each other? A suggestion for the curator -- the exhibition doesn't offer any background to the war for people who know nothing or very little of why it occurred and how it came to be. We had to ask one of the customer service people at the desk for some background information and were lucky enough to then receive a comprehensive description of why and how the war happened. It would be very good to have that background available before you start seeing the images.
