I have done all of their tours, The Free Walking Tour (English & in Spanish) Communist, and Jewish tour in Sofia and the Free walking tour in Plovdiv and I'd highly recommend it. The guides are wonderfully kind and informative ready and willing to answer any questions you can tell they are passionate about sharing their city and history with others.

I currently live in Sofia, which is why I've done them all and always recommend them to any visitors we have.

Quick side note the Communist tour is paid, the others are all free and as I mentioned above they are all incredible and informative.

After two days in the City where we already visited the main attractions without a guide we took the free tour in the evening. A lot of people showed up before the court but there were couple of guides available two split into around 20 participants.
Yoan was our guide and the next 2 hours were very informative, which gave us a good overview of Sofia’s and Bulgarians rich history. The mixture between sad and funny stories kept us all engaged and even our children found it very interesting. Thanks Yoan for this tour and keep it up

Our English speaking guide was Vasil and he was incredible. One of the smartest and wittiest tour guides I’ve had the pleasure of having.

He was there at the tour meeting point 10-15 mins before the start time (when I arrived) and I immediately felt very comfortable.

Vasil is friendly, highly knowledgeable and articulate, possessing the rare ability to speak to audiences of a wide variety of backgrounds. He never gave simple answers to complex questions but instead painted both sides of the story and let us decide for ourselves (for example, whether communism was a benefit or disadvantage to Bulgaria.)

Highly recommend! 10/10!!

Management if you’re reading this please provide an electronic way to tip. Not all of us have the luxury of changing to local cash in advance of the tour.

We did a free tour last week with Niki. I loved the way he explained the history of the city and its origins. Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and kind, I'd recommend a 100% specially during your first or second day in the city, as he gives plenty of tips to enjoy the city afterwards.

We chose to do the free walking tour as our first activity in Sofia to get a bit of an overview.
We can highly recommend that to everybody as you get to see a lot of nice and interesting spots and learn even more about the city of Sofia and it’s fascinating history.
We took the tour with Vasil, which was really great.
He is a not only an excellent guide with so much knowledge to share but also a great entertainer.
So if you want to learn a lot about the city while laughing a lot and having a good time - choose Vasil 😊

I went on the free walking tour with a friend on our first morning in Sofia and what a great choice that was. Our guide Dessi was informative, funny, and personable. She made the large group tour experience fun and did a great job summarizing thousands of years of Sofia history. It was absolutely a great introduction to the city.

We did the free walking tour and Tommy was phenomenal! He obviously loves the city and the long history of Sofia. His excitement was contagious and made the history come alive for all of us an interactive presentation as we walked through the city. I will definitely take another Sofia tour. Thank you so much, Tommy!

Found the guides near the 2 Lions of Palace of Justice (City Court) at 11am holding the 365 Free Tour cards. We turned up on May 1 (Sun) for the 2Hr Free City Tour and surprisingly there were a lot of people ! Around 5 past 11, the guides with badges split the gathered folks by language first. There were 2 groups for English of around 20 people each. We accompanied English speaking Vasko for the City Tour.

The tour lasted exactly 2 hours, covering the main attractions of Sofia, ending at the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. Vasko was very funny, engaging and helpful and gave a brief history of Bulgaria all the way from first settlement to contemporary situation in a light hearted way. He also gave a handy booklet in the end and spared time to answer any questions related to Bulgaria. The Tour is indeed 100% free - but we did tip him for his exemplary service (like most of the folks in the group) .

We joined Nikola on this FREE Sofia walking tour. He was an excellent, engaging, enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide for the 2-ish hours of the event. The tour was very well designed to include all of the main sites in the city and Nikola shared interesting history and insights for each place. Having enjoyed this tour so much, we retraced our steps later in our stay so that we could fully explore each site and understand their significance. The tour was completely free but we were happy to make a voluntary donation to 365 so that these tours can continue for future visitors.

I took a free Sofia tour today and I am absolutely excited about it. It is a must have for anyone who comes to the city.
Sofia is truly amazing city with interesting history and this tour gives an overview of interesting facts about different periods. During 2 hours of excurcion one is totaly absorbed with a mixture of historical facts starting from Ancient times and up to present.
Moreover, Tommy, our guide in this tour, is a real professional who was passionately telling about the history of Sofia. Listening to him is absolutely gripping and everyone is involved it duting all the tour.
I would definitely try another tour from Free Sofia Tours!
