Perfect place to read whatever you want. Calm and very nice library. Words fales me to explain how nice is to 'dive' into the books world and to touch the treasures of the books.

Lovely national library and it holds the most books in Bulgaria.
Statues in front honoring the guys credited with making the Bulgarian version of the Cyrillic alphabet easy to read and use.

It is true that is has a very impressive collection. And it is a very impressive building too, while falling somewhat short of my aesthetic standards. But it is one of the most depressingly Kafkaesque institutions I have ever entered. When you go past the increasingly tougher procedures of actually getting in the library, you start to feel small and insignificant. Not in awe of human knowledge, unfortunately, but of bureaucratic fear. Nice to know it is there, but unless you are doing research, steer away.

The Bulgarian National Library ( St Cyrill & St Methodius ) is an absolutely fantastic looking structure my twin brother Stephen and I chanced upon as we were wandering around this part of Sofia and what a great find.
This is the national library of Bulgaria as the name states ,it was founded on the 4th April 1878 ,the present building was constructed between 1940 - 1953 by the famous Bulgarian architectural team of Vasilyov,Dimitur Tsolov and its name Saint Cyril & Saint Methodius honours these two peers who created the Glagolitic alphabet and the Cyrillic alphabet which was named after Cyril.
I just loved the beautiful building that houses the library, a lovely garden area in front is superb and the statues of Saint Methodius and Saint Cyril are stunning.
A beautiful building, most definitely well worth checking out and easy to locate along Bulevard Vasil Levski.

The approach is lovely, with vibrant flower beds in front of a fine sculpture of two scholars with scrolls and quills. All fronting the marvellous classical frontage of the library.
Within we walked around the public areas admiring the features and having a perusal of the impressive contents.

After taking pictures of the Statue and Garden in front of this attraction, I entered this Library.
I asked if I could enter and was given the permission to visit the Ground Level only.
Took a quick tour and some pictures here!

This impressive looking building is located quite close to the university and also to the cathedral and is easily combined in a walking trip to the main sites in this area. I tried to go inside but they had a complex process and a fee was required. Looks good from the outside though.
