Found this while wandering around after visiting the big church. Great golden onions on top of the spires and inside was great for an eastern church. No photos allowed inside as with most orthodox churches.

The Russian church was built with Russian money. Rumor has it that if a wish is written and passed on to a Russian priest, it comes true. From an artistic and cultural point of view, the church is richly decorated in Eastern Orthodox style.

Small church near to the main cathedral. Pretty outside and inside. Free to visit and worth a few minutes look if you're walking between the main cathedral and St Sofia churches and the Natural History Museum.

To see this properly and appreciate the exterior, I suggest standing across the road (at a diagnol angle). Read up first so you know what you are looking at. Then go nearer and inside. Very small but ancient. The smell of incense was lovely when we walked in. There was a ceremony on but you could still see everything as it is so small. We just couldn't walk right through. The frescoes are quite something. Free to enter. Not sure on photography as a lot of these places in Sofia, either charge you or don't allow it. I only photographed from the outside.

This is another stunning Eastern Orthodox Church. The church dates back to the 13th century with a very interesting history. It is assumed the church was built on the remains of the royal palace once occupied by Constantine the Great. There are ancient remains displayed in the underground walls of the church. The grounds are beautiful and also worth spending time viewing. Unfortunately no pictures are allowed of the interior of the church.

Wonderful old Russian Orthodox church with an incredible entrance arch. Beautiful gold domes visible from the side of the building. Inside has some wonderful painted artwork on the walls and ceiling. Free to enter but arms and legs must be covered.

Tiny orthodox church, situated at a busy road. It’s rather small, and a tad underwhelming to be honest - there are quite a number of orthodox churches more impressive than this one. Feel free to give this a miss.

One of Sofia's little gems. Definitely you should visit the catacomb below the church at which you can write a note with your wishes. Later on you can pray at the tomb of Saint Nicolas and leave your note on a special wooden box. The atmosphere over there is really something worthy to experience.

This is a beautifully detailed Orthodox Church. It is not large but worth visiting. There is a small park behind the church. It is still in active use, so keep this in mind. When we visited there was a ceremony going on.

This church is called Russian, it is dedicated to Russian soldiers who died during the Russian-Turkish war for the liberation of Bulgaria. It was opened in 1907 on the site of a destroyed market mosque. Built in traditional Russian style next to a small park in the center of Sofia it looks good. BUT! You can't take photos inside! We were disappointed!
