Even if you are not a religious person, this place will make you feel it. From all the imposing temples in the city, this is the most "precious" one. It really stands out in the scenery, but I am really glad, it was decided to preserve it.

Another of the ancient churches in Sofia. Built in the 11th century, on an old ancient Roman building. I have passed the church many times but I have not seen it open for visits. It is claimed (but not proven) that one of the greatest heroes of the Liberation - Vasil Levski - is buried here.

"St.. Saddlers Petka" is located in the city center - in the subway Square. "Nedelya" near the entrance of the metro station "Serdika". The temple is dedicated to the Martyr Petka Ikoniyska. Built on the ruins of a Roman cult building and dates back HІv. The frescoes are visible today inside are painted at the end of the XV and the beginning of XVI century.
During the Ottoman rule the church "Sv. Petka of the Saddlers' has been maintained by the guild of Samardzija in Sofia, hence the name. There is a hypothesis that the temple was reburied revolutionary Vasil Levski (1837-1873g). This hypothesis is not confirmed, but today many people believe that there were laid the remains of the great Bulgarian. The temple is operational and celebrated temple celebration on October 28 - the Day of St. Petka.

We were told this was the oldest church in Sofia. It is free to visit and worth a visit if you are nearby (next to TZUM, the central statue of Sophia and the metro station).

On the crypt, which is very old Roman tomb (crypt) from the IV century, meaning that there was a previous ritual building, XI century, built this temple. The oldest frescoes are from the fourteenth century than it is a layer of XV and XVI century painted by St. Pimen Zografski. The church is called St Petka of Iconium, which is the patroness of samardzhiite (masters of saddles and harnesses), whose district was in the region during the Middle Ages and want to attend the temple and maintained.

This little church is a microcosm of the history of Sofia - the frescoes inside, although worn, still speak of the men and women now long dead who worshipped here,

Nice little church/chapell below current ground level next to Serdica. Should you want to check inside, don't be affraid to go down the staris on the left and open the door. You will find a small hidden gift shop and for a small fee could go up to visit inside.
Since it's a relly small chapel, don't expect much from the inside.
