We were lucky to have spent 7 days traveling around Bulgaria with Patrick. He not only took us to major attractions but also to unique sites that gave us a better understanding of this wonderful country. He tailored the itinerary to our interests and abilities and was flexible about each day's activities. He has a good sense of humor and was really fun to be around. We highly recommend him!

Patrick was a very knowledgeable and experienced guide. He took very good care of us when we were in Bulgaria. He picked us up at the airport and drove us across the country. His knowledge of the history of the Balkans makes for some very intellectual conversation on the drive across Bulgaria. We were vegetarians and Patrick made sure we had a great meal where ever we went. Highly recommend him and looking forward to engaging him during our next trip to the Balkans.

Patrick is a great traveling companion, guide, and driver. My wife and I have traveled with Patrick three times, 2017, 2019, and 2021. Each time we've found him to be a charming and competent companion. While he is a native Bulgarian speaker, his English is impeccable. He is a very capable driver and does a great job of handling situations where language knowledge is important, not only in Bulgarian but also in Turkish and Greek. I am happy to offer my highest recommendation for Patrick. If you engage Patrick for your Balkan adventure, you can count on him making it more enjoyable.

Patrick was our guide during our trip to Bulgaria in mid-September, 2021. He met us at the airport in Sofia. He guided us through several cities for 4 days. Patrick is deeply knowledgeable about his country's history and culture. He was eager to share his knowledge with us. He took us to some of the finest monasteries and archeological sites around the country. Patrick was always prompt and flexible to accommodate our interests. He took us to some of the best restaurants around the country. Patrick speaks fluent English and is pleasant around people. Overall, it was an enjoyable trip made more memorable by the addition of Patrick to the mix.

We are both experienced travelers who like to go a bit out of the usual paths, for our first visit to Bulgaria it looked like a challenge for us to find a good private guide, as it seemed some of the guides we contacted prefered to propose fixed itineraries based only on one center of interest when it’s not a readymade «vanila» tour of the country. Hence it was a blessing to find Patrick on this trip! Communication is key when you select a guide you don’t know, in that matter Patrick didn’t disappoint, I first mailed him a few hints on how I would imagine our trip according to my interests, he replied with a tailored itinerary with activities and overnight accoms that totally fit our taste. The thing is that we have many interests among local culture, architecture, frescoes, nature, food and wine, which represent a broad array which usually guides are reluctant to cater on one trip. However, within a couple of mails and a few modifications, we’ve been convinced with Patrick’s flexibility for this trip combining various areas and activities around Sofia, Plovdiv and Veliko Tarnovo. This was not the first time we hired a guide for a week or so, we have been driven/guided by many different people in various countries but after the first couple of hours we knew Patrick was for sure unique in his category. Imagine the whole experience like you would be traveling with both a guide and also your instant best friend, except that Patrick is surely more knowledgeable than the latter. Aside from being litterate on Bulgarian history and art, able to explain everything you want to know from ancient Thrace to the recent communist era monuments, he’s a bright and witty guy who speaks really fluent english as well many helpful lingos in the Balkan area who will drive you through more intimate stories or places of the country. We never had so much fun during a trip than the 6 days we spent visiting monasteries, monuments, natural spots or wineries and during the driving time, discussing on art and history or more leisure topics like football, spearfishing, the hippie trail or strange local food. It seems Patrick is a man for all season, not only he’s a friend of everyone in each town/village, but has been to every winery, knows the small details of the interesting places and most of all inputs fun and good humor in every activity he is involved in. Although this was a short stay and thanks to Patrick’s relations, we had the feeling we were visiting the country like insiders in the best conditions possible meeting friends, rather than being a couple of tourist visiting some place completely foreign to us. I would NOT recommand Patrick in the case you prefer visiting with big groups, you are not interested in meeting local people, you wouldn’t dare experience local specialities, or completely dislike wine or even don’t like having fun during the day. (Although I’m not sure he wouldn’t be able to taylor a tour for any kind of grumpy people) On the other hand if you expect to explore more interesting spots, travel in a comfortable car, overnight in the nicest homestays, even sometimes get upgraded thanks to his relations, eat like locals (sometimes surprising dishes), drink excellent wines, hear the local stories and expect to laugh each day then take Patrick. All in all, we are now longing for our next trip with him, probably a longer journey through the Balkans or Turkey.
