I visited Sveshtari for the first time right after it was discovered.Even back then, before much of the infrastructure was built around it or even properly preserved, was stunning. How often in life do You get to see an actual bomb of the Tracian times? The architecture is marvelous. It just takes You breath away,at least for me.

Amongst the 30 mounts in the area this mount was excavated and found to contain the tomb of a Sveshtari king and his wife; guarded by 6 horses. After the excavations were finished an artificial hill was built over the findings to preserve the site. You are only allowed to access the site under supervision (excellent English speaking guide) and... More

Somewhere on the road to Ruse, North of Bulgaria. Large forest. In the middle of nowhere. And, still, some signs. Unusual signs. A very well tended bed of lavender. Incredible green tiled brand new toilets. Just another Thracian tombstone ? "Thracian people is second largest after the Indian", so Herodotus. "And despise death because of their natural wisdom." Elation much... More

The royal tomb and the two nearby tombs are wonders of human abilities. if you have any interest in ancient history, this site is a must see. I was particularly impressed by the efforts in place to preserve these remains of our past

He told... More

We stopped here as part of our travels in Bulgaria. Amazing!!! Such history and well preserved artifacts. Hard to find on your own. Hire a guide or do as part of a tour.

My wife and I travelled to Bulgaria from Western Australia and one of the highlights of our visit was to have been a visit to Sveshtari's Thracian Tomb. We travelled for over two hours on, latterly, some of the worst roads we have encountered in Bulgaria only to find that the tomb was not open on Mondays and Tuesdays. THERE... More

A well preserved Thracian tomb with paint still visible on the stone carvings. Visitors can go inside the actual mausoleum and see the stone sculpture and paintings that make this tomb unique in Thracian archaeology. But there is a lot more to see in this reserve including the remains of the Thracian city of Helis and the much later tomb... More

I visited the place with other European tour operators. The place worst a visit, but do not expect too much historical evidences and stories. A guide is needed in order to understand the facts and the history.
