This small-group tour is ideal for travelers wanting a scenic day trip from Sarajevo. Save hours researching sights with a comprehensive itinerary and transport provided. You’ll visit Travnik, once Bosnia’s capital, to see its old center, castle, and mosques. Then, explore medieval Jajce and admire its Ottoman architecture and the waterfalls in its center before continuing to the Pliva Watermills, where rustic huts and gurgling waters make a picturesque sight.

The tour itself is nothing complicated: a video room with a 17-min. long tape presenting the building and the everyday life of the tunnel during the war, a tiny museum and an excerpt of the tunnel. Yet this little exhibition says more than most of the bigger museums I’ve been to. Through the film, you get a sense of how the war effected the everyday life of the ordinary citizens of Sarajevo which is something you cannot learn in the school. It was also interesting to read how the tunnel was saved and the whole thing was put together by a family without any significant help from others. The “tour” has given me an unforgettable experience and made me more aware of the sufferings of the people of Sarajevo. I would absolutely recommend a visit there!

Is is easy to access the tunnel. First take tram number 3 towards Ilidza and get on on last stop. Train cost 1.7 Mark. Then 5 min taxi ride is for 10 Bosnian marks. The entrance per adult is 7- 10 marks. It was good to see the museum but I was disappointed that audio guide did not work, also people working in the museums were not too helpful. There are few rooms were war videos can be watched but I had to work out myself how to put it on, despite the fact that I have asked people in the museum.

Don’t miss touring the war tunnel. It is an eye-opening experience that really gives you a thorough feeling of one of the most important elements of Bosnian survival during the war. Very well-presented and an essential experience in Sarajevo.

The tunnel is a great example of the resilience the residents of Sarajevo displayed during that terrible four year seize. They were clever enough to build it perpendicular to the airport runway so that it could not be bombed. There is a very short segment of the tunnel that one can walk through and there is a room with a video. It is well worth visiting even though it can become crowded with tourists.
