This Catholic Cathedral is one of the larger churches in Sarajevo. It's right on the main pedestrian thoroughfare and hard to miss. The interior was closed when we were there, but we admired the outside and its impressive facade. There is also a silver statue out front of Pope John Paul II; he visited Sarajevo in 1997.

This is the biggest Catholic Church in Sarajevo; you should visit it to understand the Catholic side of the “European Jerusalem”. John Paul II visited it back in 1997, during his Apostolic trip to Bosnia. Unfortunately, you cannot take pics of the inner part.

In Sarajevo you can see Catholic and Orthodox churches, synagogues and mosques. Sarajevo Cathedral (Sarajevska katedrala) is the largest cathedral in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The interior is not very decorated but there are nice stained glass windows and beautiful organ inside. Free entry.

Normally I love a good church experience when I'm in a new city. This one wasn't my favourite. There were no photos allowed to be taken. Its right in the heart of the tourist area. The building itself is lovely and its nice inside but it just lacked a bit of presence / atmosphere or maybe grandeur if that's the word. Have a look if you go past.

We didn't actually get to go inside this cathedral and we sadly missed Mass but you do get to have a look inside from the back. It's quite beautiful. It is also nice to sit outside in one of the cafes with the view of the church in the background...simply stunning.

This eye-catching cathedral is in a nice square along the pedestrian walkway. As one looks at the front of the church, there are reminders of the war on the bottom lefthand side of the building. There is also a Sarajevo Rose in front of the cathedral.

This cathedral is a Catholic church and the largest cathedral in Bosnia. As its name suggests, the church is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Designed by Hungarian architect Josip Vancaš, the building is in the Neo-Gothic style, with Romanesque elements. On the exterior, the most obvious Romanesque styling is in the two towers, although they do also have Gothic lancet windows. The structure is built from polygonal bricks with quoin blocks with a darker shade of beige compared to the bricks.

Inside, the decorations have Moorish Revival influences in addition to the aforementioned styles. Mainly in the colour scheme that’s very close to the Moorish architecture of Andalusia, especially if you’ve seen the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba. The centrepiece of all the decorations is the high altar with a reredo of seven niches behind the altar depicting the Sacred Heart of Jesus, St. Joseph, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Michael and the prophet Elijah.

Located in central Sarajevo, this is hard to miss. Several significant tourist sites are nearby. So too are the main shopping district and loads of bars, restaurants, etc.

There are several steps up to the entrance, so entry with a stroller will be difficult. Once inside there is an anteroom. The main cathedral is small for its status, and is more akin to a large church. It is nothing special except maybe to devout Catholics. There is a statue of Pope John Paul II outside the cathedral. to the right of the door.

This cathedral, built in the neo-Gothic style, represents yet another masterpiece by the great Czech architect Josip Vancas, who had left his unerasable imprint on the face of our city. Worth visiting both in the daylight and night hours
